The Premiership will be dominated by familiar faces this season - Ruud van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Michael Owen and Patrick Vieira - but who are the youngsters who could make an impact this term?
 Arsenal's Senderos is a future star |
Everton's sensational 17-year-old Wayne Rooney should be a massive influence for club and country this season.
But this time last year he had not even kicked a ball in the top flight and was a virtual unknown in world football.
BBC Sport examines the fresh faces who may make their mark on the Premiership this season.
ARSENAL - PHILIPPE SENDEROS
Arsene Wenger fought off fierce competition from Liverpool and Manchester United to sign the 18-year-old defender from Servette. He has already won rave reviews in pre-season and could press for a first-team place.
ASTON VILLA - STEFAN MOORE
The 19-year-old striker was a star of Villa's 2002 FA Youth Cup winning team and demonstrated his promise last season. He will have matured again and could flourish under David O'Leary, a manager keen to give youth its chance.
BIRMINGHAM CITY - LUCIANO FIGUEROA
The 22-year-old Argentine striker arrives with a big reputation - although talk of him being the "new Gabriel Batistuta" may be optimism gone mad. Rangy, promising and a goalscorer, he will carry an interesting element of surprise.
BLACKBURN ROVERS - JAY MCEVELEY
The 18-year-old left-back delighted Graeme Souness when he emerged on the scene last season. Tall and powerful, he won England Under-21 honours and will look to push on again this term.
BOLTON WANDERERS - KEVIN NOLAN
The 21-year-old Merseysider has already shown his ability - another year in the Premiership will see him take his career on another step.
CHARLTON ATHLETIC - SCOTT PARKER
Parker had a brilliant season last year, forcing his way into England contention. Charlton have fought off interest from Spurs and Everton in the 6m-rated 22-year-old - this season will define his class.
CHELSEA - GLEN JOHNSON
Johnson was outstanding in West Ham's late surge of form that only just failed to beat relegation, showing maturity way beyond his 18 years. This is an international in the making and may be one of Chelsea's shrewdest buys, even at 6m.
EVERTON - TONY HIBBERT
Hibbert's outstanding performances last season were over-shadowed by the emergence of Wayne Rooney. Solid and dependable, the 22-year-old will hope to shake off injury problems to press his England claims.
FULHAM - ZAT KNIGHT
Big season for the England Under-21 defender. If he can turn his rich promise into greater consistency, Fulham will have a better chance of avoiding the struggles so many are predicting for Chris Coleman's side.
LEEDS UNITED - JAMES MILNER
The 17-year-old was a rare bright spot in Leeds' season of misery, scoring a brilliant goal against Chelsea. Precocious, a goalscorer and a creator. May get chances with the Elland Road exit door permanently ajar.
LEICESTER CITY - TOMMY WRIGHT
Teenage forward Wright is a lifelong Leicester fan and former mascot who scored the winner on his full debut against Nottingham Forest. One of the young hopes in the squad Micky Adams has re-shaped for the Premiership.
LIVERPOOL - ANTHONY LE TALLEC
Liverpool beat off Europe's elite to sign Le Tallec, and team-mate Florent Sinama Pongolle, after they helped France win the 2001 World under-17 title. The brilliant 18-year-old midfielder has finally arrived from Le Havre and has been showing his talent in pre-season matches.
MANCHESTER CITY - JOEY BARTON
Barton won the praise of Kevin Keegan for his performances at the end of last season, when the combative 20-year-old midfield man showed real promise. Likely to get more opportunities this term.
MANCHESTER UNITED - DARREN FLETCHER
Talented 19-year-old Scottish midfielder who featured occasionally last season. Fletcher is one of a new crop of youngsters being groomed at OId Trafford.
MIDDLESBROUGH - CHRIS RIGGOTT
Defender Riggott had mixed fortunes at Middlesbrough after the 22-year-old signed from Derby - but rich in promise and could bounce back this season.
NEWCASTLE UNITED - MICHAEL CHOPRA
The 19-year-old striker has been talked about as Newcastle's next big young talent - and proved it with his goalscoring feats on loan at Watford last term. Will soon be pressing for more first team action.
PORTSMOUTH - MATTHEW TAYLOR
The England Under-21 defender will miss the first month of the season with a heel injury, but could make a massive impact among Pompey's Premiership veterans when he returns.
SOUTHAMPTON - CHRIS BAIRD
Baird was thrust into the FA Cup Final against Arsenal last season with barely any first team experience and delivered a performance of outstanding promise. Just 21, the Northern Ireland defender has the talent to come out of the shadows at St Mary's this season.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - HELDER POSTIGA
The 20-year-old Portugal striker is Spurs' big summer signing and has a growing reputation. He is a natural goalscorer and his pre-season performances promise big things this season.
WOLVES - JOLEON LESCOTT
If he recovers from knee operations, the tall defender could emerge as one of the new breed of Premiership stars this season. He was a key figure in Wolves' promotion last term.
