Sri Lanka batsman Sanath Jayasuriya could play against India on Wednesday despite dislocating his shoulder in the opening match of the Tri-Series. Jayasuriya was injured in the field during the game with India on Saturday but returned to score 43 not out to lead his side to a three-wicket win.
A scan has revealed that he has escaped major tendon damage, but he will miss Tuesday's match against West Indies.
"The doctor said he was very lucky," said team manager Michael Tissera.
"We're relieved that Sanath's shoulder did not suffer serious damage. I'm glad to say that the scan is better than expected.
"There appears to have been no tendon damage and only some fluid build-up in the joint.
"We are not sure at this stage about exactly when he will be able to return but he will definitely play again in this tournament."
Jayasuriya, 36, has previously damaged tendons around his shoulder after dislocating it during a one-day tournament in 2002.
