Mashud celebrates his first Test ton |
Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar was delighted with his team's effort as they drew the first Test against West Indies in St Lucia. Bashar became the first Bangladesh captain to declare in Test cricket when the Tigers did so on 271-9, leaving West Indies 336 to win off 29 overs.
It was only Bangladesh's third draw in 29 Test matches, they have lost 26.
Bashar said: "It was a total team effort. Whenever we needed someone to step up they did."
Bangladesh had clawed their way back into the match after resuming on 94-6 on the fifth day.

Former captain Khaled Mashud scored his maiden Test century as the Tigers found a new resilience to thwart an increasingly frustrated West Indies attack.
Bashar added: "I am very happy for the boys. We gained a lot of positives from this match, but every time we play there is always room to improve.
"We will take the positives from this match and try and improve on them in Jamaica."
West Indies skipper Brian Lara said the pitch was always going to favour the batsmen.
His four main bowlers struggled to bowl Bangladesh out, with part-time spinner Ramnaresh Sarwan claiming Test-best wickets of 4-37.
Lara said: "The pitch in this match was very much in the favour of the batsmen and it was always going to be tough for us to get 20 wickets on that pitch.
"I know the guys bowled well, but playing four bowlers on such a pitch was really taking a chance.
"Credit, however, must be given to the bowlers and the work they put into this match. Let's hope they can reap the benefits in Jamaica."
The second and final Test starts at Sabina Park in Kingston on Friday.
