Second Test, Bulawayo: Zimbabwe v West Indies Lara celebrated his first win as skipper away from home |
West Indies took seven overs on the final day of the second Test to gain the final wicket they needed for a 128-run win over Zimbabwe. After drawing the first Test the tourists clinched the short series 1-0.
Resuming on 90-9 - 143 short of victory - Zimbabwe's last-wicket pair added a further 14, with captain Heath Streak finishing 33 not out.
Blessing Mahwire faced 33 deliveries in all before he was bowled through the gate by Mervyn Dillon for four.
Mahwire narrowly escaped being dismissed by the fifth ball he faced on Sunday, which slipped through his guard and rolled against his wicket without dislodging a bail.
The home team had looked in pole position after bowling the Caribbean side out for 128 on day four but West Indies bounced back in style.
Spinner Omari Banks led the way with 3-35, and there were two wickets each for Dillon, Corey Collymore and Wavell Hinds.

Lara celebrated his first Test victory away from home and was also the man of the match, after a first innings 191, saw him become the highest-scoring West Indian Test batsman ever. "The Zimbabweans were very confident after the first Test they knew that they could have beaten us," he said
"But it was always going to be a tall order chasing over 200 on this pitch."
Lara has captained the West Indies in 26 Tests, winning nine, drawing four and losing 13.
"A lot of people will say that Zimbabwe are one of the minnows of world cricket," he added.
Dillon dismissed last man Mahwire after 35 minutes on day five |
"But I thought the 11 guys who played 10 days of Test cricket against us were very determined." The West Indies have a single warm-up match on Wednesday before returning to Bulawayo for the first of a five-match one-day series on Saturday.
"It's disappointing to lose like this, especially after having bowled very well to get ourselves back into the game," Streak said.
"They bowled superbly and Brian Lara's innings set it up for them.
"But we are looking forward to a very competitive one-day series."
