Britain's Timothy Benjamin won the 400m in 45.67 seconds from Jamaica's Jermaine Gonzales (45.96secs).

In the 400m hurdles, Briton Chris Rawlinson was third in 48.99.

Rawlinson was 0.45 seconds behind two-time world champion Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic (48.54) with Jamaica's Danny McFarlane (48.92) second.

Double Olympic 100m champion Gail Devers of America won the 100m hurdles in 12.56 seconds ahead of Canada's world champion Perdita Felicien.

In the women's 100m, Britain's Abe Oyepitan was eighth in a high quality race won by newly-crowned world champion Torri Edwards in 11.19secs.

American Shawn Crawford pipped countryman Justin Gatlin to win the men's 200m.

Crawford clocked 20.31secs, with Gatlin eight one hundredths of a second back. Portugal's Francis Obikwelu was third in 20.46.

McConnell was fifth in the 400m

Bahrain enjoyed a one-two in the women's 400m with Tonique Williams (49.78) edging Christine Amertil (50.97).

Britain's Lee McConnell, the Commonwealth and European silver medallist, was fifth in a time of 51.69

Kenya's Bernard Lagat edged the men's 1,500m in 3:34.08 from Ukraine's Ivan Heshko, who ran 3:34.11.

Kenyan Alex Kipchirchir was third in 3:34.33 with Briton Michael East, the Commonwealth champion, fifth in a personal best of 3:34.85.

Ukraine's Iryna Lishchynska was fastest in the women's 1,500m in 4:03.76 as Briton Helen Clitheroe finished 10th in 4:08.94 and Jo Fenn was 15th in a personal best of 4:13.05.

Kenya's John Kibowen triumphed in the men's 5,000m in 13:01.94 with Ethiopian pair Gebre-Egziabher Gebremarin (13:02.28) second and Mulugeta Wendimu (13:02.42) third.

Britain's John Mayock dropped out after about 3,000m as he was chasing the Olympic qualifying mark.

In the women's high jump, South Africa's Hestrie Cloete topped out with a height of 1.98m, two centimetres clear of American Tisha Waller and Croatia's Blanka Vlasic.

The men's javelin was won by Breaux Greer of America with a throw of 87.39m to surpass Russian Sergey Makarov effort of 86.19m. Britain's Nick Nieland was eighth with a best of 75.70m

Russian Yuriy Borzakovskiy took gold in the men's 800m in 1:44.41 ahead of Kenyan Wilfred Bungei (1:45.04) with Joeri Jansen of Belgium (1:45.18) third.
