'World Cup win changed the landscape for women's cricket in India'

India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is the BBC's Indian Sportswoman of the Year for 2025.

She scored a team-high 434 runs at the 2025 Cricket World Cup, describing victory in that tournament as the defining moment for the sport in India.

"I think people have started feeling the same emotion for women's cricket than they do for men's cricket in India," she said.

"It was so good to see the fans celebrate our World Cup win."
