Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino told BBC Match of the Day:

"What's important for us is the victory. I am happy because the three points was so important for us.

"We deserved to win. Brighton is an aggressive team and they work so hard but I think we worked hard too.

"I am happy with the three points but more with the performance and the reaction.

"For everyone who watched the game, they were wondering what we were doing. The way we conceded was crazy. One minute from the end, we should be more vigilant and focused.

"To allow them in that position, it is painful to concede. We won but need to work and realise we can not concede this type of goal."

• Brighton have only won one of their last 10 games against Tottenham in all competitions.
• Spurs have only failed to score in one of their last 17 Premier League away games.

• Since the start of last season, Brighton’s Premier League games have seen 17 penalties given (11 for, 6 against), more than any other side.
• Anthony Knockaert has been directly involved in four goals in his last five Premier League games (1 goal, 3 assists), as many as he managed in his previous 43 in the competition.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Chris Hughton told BT Sport:

"On the balance of play, it got a little bit frantic in the last period where they had a few chances, I think we had as many good opportunities as they did.

"But with the quality they have, they can be clinical with theirs. I think they showed their quality with the second goal in a high press from us trying to get back in the game.

"I don't think anyone can doubt our willingness to get back in it. They're a very expansive team and on a good, wet surface like this, they can move the ball quickly.

"What you need to do is stay in the game as long as possible and look for your opportunities. We always felt they would go."

[On the penalty] "There's no doubt it's hit his hand but we see that an awful lot and on a lot of occasions they're not given as penalties."

Daniel Perry: Harry Kane anonymous in that game? Scored, and could have had a hat-trick by the end. I wish he could play this anonymous all season.

Robert Weaver: Good result for Spurs, but we must improve our game management. Gave away another late goal & it was completely unnecessary.

Erik Lamela has scored four goals in his last four league appearances for Spurs, as many as he had in his previous 58 combined.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham defender Danny Rose told BT Sport:

"It was great build-up play. We started from the back and I put in a good ball and it's a great finish from Erik Lamela.

"We're over the moon with the win. It was a sloppy goal at the end and I'll have to look at myself and my positioning.

"[On fatigue] The manager is a big believer that it's all in your mind and he prepares us in the right way every week.

"He looks at how much we've done and how far we've run and he prepares us right for each game. Fatigue is a bit of a myth and we don't pay a lot of attention to that."

That win for Spurs moves them up into fifth position and above Manchester United.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane told BBC Match of the Day:

"Today was about mentality, getting around the pitch, pressing high and harder and I think we did that.

"We could have put it to bed and won 3-0 or 4-0 but it's good to get back to winning ways. The gaffer will be pleased and we can build on this.

"I didn't see the penalty in real time but I spoke to one of their players an they said it was handball. Sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't but it was given and it worked well for us."

Ash Williams: Kane has been pretty anonymous in this match. If it wasn’t for the penalty you’d be forgiven for thinking he wasn’t on the pitch

Tottenham's heatmap on the right shows how dominate the visitors were in midfield. They had almost 80% of the possession in the first half but Brighton started to come back after the break and reduced that percentage to 71.
