    Young +1, Thomas E (12)

Justin Thomas arrests a run of four successive bogeys on the 11th and now has a birdie putt on the 12th.

He could really do with this dropping after a crisp second to 10 feet but it shuffles right and he stays at level par.

Still it could be worse. Cameron Young can't even save his par and has pretty much made a bogey every other hole today.

  2. Scheffler can't believe itpublished at 21:50 BST

    Scheffler -2, Puig -1 (13)

Scottie Scheffler has six feet for birdie on the 13th but his putt doesn't even touch the sides as he lets yet another shot go on the greens.

And just one look at Scheffler's face tells you that he's in all kinds of bother mentally with what's happening with his putting today.

A total of 16 golfers have either led, or held a share of the lead to this point today. That has to be some kind of record.

  4. Postpublished at 21:46 BST

    Rai -5 (15)

Aaron Rai take a bow. The Englishman looks in a spot of bother when he hits a wayward tee shot, which means the green is well out of the equation with his second.

But he is right on the money after leaving himself a wedge, spiraling a shot in towards the 15th flag that spins back a foot or two to leave a tap in for par.

If he were to triumph this weekend, he could be the most famous bloke in Wolverhampton since Steve Bull was at his peak.

  5. Rahm back in the leadpublished at 21:39 BST

    Rahm -5 (16)

Jon Rahm finds the greenside bunker with his second shot on 16, but he's Spanish isn't he so that means he's a whizz out of the sand traps - sticking it to three feet.

That's close enough for a birdie, his fifth of the day, to put him on five under and joining a share of the lead.

  6. Gotterup gets to fivepublished at 21:37 BST

    Matsuyama -1, Gotterup -5 (9)

Chris Gotterup has to just hack out of the rough on the ninth, but from 150 yards out with his third he throws a dart to just five feet, and he's not going to miss birdie chances like that.

The American moves to five under and into a share of the lead.

  7. Bogey for McNealypublished at 21:36 BST

    Smalley -1, McNealy -3 (8)

Maverick McNealy pushes his tee shot right on the eighth and it leaves a monster putt of over 30 yards.

His effort tracks left and 10 feet past and when he can't make the return journey is a shot gone.

Having just got a shot back Alex Smalley, drops his fourth of the day, after under clubbing and not finding the green off the tee.

  8. Short game strugglepublished at 21:33 BST

    Aberg -3 (13)

Ludvig Aberg is pretty much pin high on the 13th after his tee shot on the 292-yard par four, but he makes a mess of his chip then has to hit a long-range putt and in the end needs to can a six footer just to save par.

    Missed chance.

  9. Postpublished at 21:32 BST

    Rai -5 (14)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Sounds

He's got the lead, he just needs to keep doing what he's doing, finding fairways and greens. His iron play has been fantastic.

  10. Rai saves parpublished at 21:30 BST

    Rai -5 (14)

Aaron Rai stepped off the birdie train on the 12th and having failed to convert a chance on the short 13th hole which is playing well under par today this feels big.

Having shunted a long putt past the pin, the Englishman is faced with a five footer for par. The last thing he wants to do is drop a shot from here and he holds his nerve nicely to roll it in.

  11. Par for Rahmpublished at 21:29 BST

    Rahm -4 (15)

Two almighty blows by Jon Rahm sees him just 15 feet away from the hole on the long par-four 15th, coming in at 551 yards today.

Rahm can't make the putt though but with hitting like that he'll fancy his chances on the 16th, which is a par five but only three yards longer.

  12. Rare birdie for Schefflerpublished at 21:24 BST

    Scheffler -2, Puig -1 (11)

A rare birdie for Scottie Scheffler at the 11th after sticking it to nine feet with his second shot, and this time his putter managed to get the ball on target for once.

Tee-to-green it's been pretty good by Scheffler but he's made almost nothing on the greens so far. He's still in touch though.

  13. Bogey for Abergpublished at 21:21 BST

    Aberg -3 (12)

Massive error by Ludvig Aberg who misses a putt of no more than three feet to make a bogey on the 12th.

The Swede is usually so solid and calm but that wasn't the best stroke in the world under pressure.

  14. 'Everyone quite defensive'published at 21:20 BST

    Taylor -4 (65)

Nick Taylor, after a five-under round of 65, told Sky Sports: "I hit the irons better today, which is a strength of mine. I had a lot more opportunities and stayed patient throughout the day. My iron game was sharp.

"Why has nobody pulled away? It's really hard to hit it close but you manage with a lot of pars. Everyone is playing quite defensive so you're going to have a lot of two-putt pars.

"You might have to take a few more risks tomorrow to make birdies, but it's nice to be in the hunt."

Rahm would move three-quarters of the way to a career Grand Slam with a win this week, having also won the Masters and US Open.

  16. Thomas slips down leaderboardpublished at 21:18 BST

    Young -1, Thomas -1 (9)

Justin Thomas is in all sorts of bother down the par-five ninth as he finds the rough off the tee and then can't escape it with his second.

It means he can't reach the putting surface with his third and when he chips 11 feet past, the inevitable third bogey on the spin comes into view.

A shocking stretch for the two-time champion, who continues to slide down the leaderboard.

  17. Jaeger bombs with back-to-back bogeyspublished at 21:15 BST

Stephan Jaeger's stoic run of 29 straight pars comes to an end.

The German picks up a birdie at the sixth after an 80-foot putt on the green leaves him with a simple tap in.

However, all that excitement must have gone to the 36-year-old's head as he bogeys the seventh and eighth holes.

A double bogey on the eighth, meanwhile, brings Aldrich Potgieter back down to level par.

  18. 'I'm 37, I don't want these chances to pass me by'published at 21:14 BST

    McIlroy -3 (66)

After his four-under 66, Rory McIlroy spoke to BBC Sport Northern Ireland's Stephen Watson.

  19. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 21:08 BST

    Rahm -4 (14)

Jon Rahm picks up a fourth birdie of the day to get back to four under.

It's a great tee shot on the 199-yard, par-three 14th and leaves 13 feet for birdie - which this time he manages to hole as his putting has been a bit hit-and-miss from that range so far today.

But in it goes and Rahm's back in business.

  20. Stunning Schmid shoots 65published at 21:07 BST

Matti Schmid has fired himself into contention with a stunning round of 65 putting the German on four under and just one off leader Aaron Rai as things stand.

Six birdies and just one bogey for Schmid, who was low amateur at the Open Championship five years ago and has been one of the best putters in the field today with the long broomhandle flat stick he uses.
