'We were outstanding in second half'published at 23:04 GMT 30 December 2025
23:04 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was amazing. We knew we played against a team that won 11 games in a row in a great emotional state. They are a really fabulous team. They keep you on the edge in a reaction. And in the first half in the first 10 minutes we mistimed a few things and they opened us up and they are really dangerous there. After we had some more control we came up in the second half and I thought we were outstanding."
On Gabriel scoring: "Both boxes I think the person and character he brings to the team is something else. He's been out for six weeks, he hasn't played yet and today he has to play against the most dangerous team, especially with space in behind, and he was fabulous"
On Gabriel Jesus scoring: "Great. He looked sharp. Very ambitious. I think Viktor [Gyokeres] did really, really well as well in the front line but Gabi took his chance so well, so another one on board."
On whether tonight was a statement win: "It's another three points is the only thing that matters. We know how long this is going to be. It's been an incredible 2025. We know what we want from 2026, we're going to have to earn it and we're still a long way away."
On whether Declan Rice will be back on the weekend: "I think so, if that swelling comes down in the next few days he will be in a better place. But the good thing is without a lot of players still the team is able to perform in that way and win the game."

'The experiences we are getting from losing is fantastic'published at 23:00 GMT 30 December 2025
23:00 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half, we competed fantastically. I thought we played better than in the last match against Chelsea. We were speaking about it this morning, whether we could be consistent over 90 minutes and try to get our momentum more than we achieved against Chelsea. We did that in the first half today but we just didn't score. We were feeling good though, feeling comfortable and confident with how we played.
"It didn't help us trying to keep the same structure in the second half because we couldn't play with one midfielder like Amadou Onana or Boubacar Kamara or Ross Barkley. We lost a little bit of momentum after the first goal because we weren't getting our structure strong enough and then the second goal made it even more difficult.
"Even at 4-0, we were still creating chances though. We used the match to firstly compete and get three points, but when we realised we couldn't we tried to get experience from it and add more young players in. It was about continuing to build the team, so the experiences we are getting from losing is fantastic."
On whether he takes any issue with Arsenal's first goal being allowed by the officials: "OK, it's like that here. Here in England, it is difficult for the goalkeepers when they are defending corners like that and the officials have this power. We must accept it."
On what happened at full-time, when he appeared to not wait to shake hands with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta: "I was waiting for him but he was with his coaches. My routine is to always go for first to the opponent coach, shake hands and then go inside or go to my coaches. If he's not doing the same rule, I can't wait. I don't know what happened.
"There's no issue for me, but I can't wait. Maybe it's because it was cold? I'm still happy, even losing today, so congratulations to Arsenal."

Arsenal will end the calendar year at the top of the Premier League for the seventh time, the joint-most of any side, along with Liverpool and Manchester United.
'We know what we want in 2026'published at 22:57 GMT 30 December 2025
22:57 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on whether 2026 will be his team's year: "Well, it has been a great 2025 on a personal and professional level. The way these guys, the club and the staff make me enjoy my work every single day is brilliant. In 2026, we know what we want. We will have to work really hard for it every single day, but I think we are on the right tracks for it."
'We lost everything in midfield after Onana went off'published at 22:55 GMT 30 December 2025
22:55 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery told BBC Match of the Day: "So, so happy with the players and of course we must analyse this match, but overall we are getting the day 19 with the points we have and the week we did.
"Today we did very good first half, different to the match against Chelsea and of course we were competing well and even getting our momentum and creating chances. We did not concede a lot, no corners in the first half for them. But the second half the first goal changed everything and after it they pushed it. And we had as well the injury of Amadou Onana and we lost everything in the middle and they have the power they showed. And we finished losing. Now with the players, my analysis is after the match how we did here 90 minutes but overall the most important is try to understand overall how we are.
"The first goal, how they score it maybe could be foul but her in England it is more difficult because the referees they let to touch the keepers and it is difficult but we must accept because it's both sides."
On Villa's 11-game winning run ending: "Football is now. Football is now, how we are now. Everything we did was fantastic. More or less we are getting our way, we could expect a better way maybe because we are third in the league and Europa League very good, but try to analyse today and the players we have."
On why he went down the tunnel quickly and whether he was unhappy with anything: "No, when I finish the match I am always waiting to shake hands with another coach but he was with the coaches and I can't wait for him. Of course, I was there but no problem. I went to my dressing room."
'We had to be really meticulous'published at 22:53 GMT 30 December 2025
22:53 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "It is a beautiful evening. That was a very tough match, as we knew it would be, because they are a top opponent to play against. The first 10 minutes were a bit shaky and we had to adjust things, but credit to them because they managed to break our press twice and were able to run which they are very dangerous at. After that, we grabbed the game and we were creating the chances. The way we started the second half was amazing, we really turned things up and were efficient in everything that we did. We had to be really meticulous and understand the timing at which we were doing everything. It's a big credit to my players because against this team it isn't easy.
"We have created a lot of chances in the last few weeks but we saw the difference today. We needed scrappy goals to win other games but today the quality of our finishing was top and made the difference."
On Gabriel's importance in the team: "We saw it today. He came back after six weeks out, which should've probably been eight weeks out but he came back earlier. He composed himself against probably one of the best strikers in the league, who is very hard to mark. I thought he was tremendous."
On Unai Emery walking down the tunnel straight after the final whistle: "It's not an issue. Sometimes we are in this sort of moment, so it's not an issue for me."
'Quality was not there'published at 22:52 GMT 30 December 2025
22:52 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim speaking to BBC MOTD: "Strange game. We knew it would be a different game to Newcastle. We needed more imagination today to create chances. We struggled in the first half trying to steal the ball. They put a lot of men in the midfield. We tried but the quality was not there. We need to recover to the next one."
Missing players? "Not using anything as an excuse. We tried to put two strikers in and then conceded from a set piece. Today was not our day."
On conceding just before the break: "We need to work on that because it's not the first time. The fluidity of the game was not there. We tried.
"We tried to overload one side but in Premier League you need one v one and you need that and we didn't have it today.
"We don't have the guys that play outside - we tried to overload the middle but today was not our day.
"Even against Everton it was three points lost, West Ham was two points lost. Always frustrating. Football is like that. If you focus on the performance, we struggled today."
'We don't look like a team with only three points'published at 22:51 GMT 30 December 2025
22:51 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves
Wolves boss Rob Edwards speaking to BBC MOTD: "Least we deserved. Good performance, progress. That's been slow in terms of results. But our performances, especially away from home, have been good and we deserved more.
"We wanted to win the game. The away games we've had we should've taken more but we haven't. We can take belief and confidence. The challenge now is to to that at home.
"We've got three points all season, it's been really difficult so far. We've showed character, got one back against Arsenal and Liverpool and tonight again showed good character and quality. Good chances in the first half and we could've taken more. When I watch it back maybe I'll be frustrated we've not taken more but the lads are working hard you can see that.
"You need results for the belief and buy-in. The lads are with us and on board but there's nothing like results to get everyone on board. They are fighting - we don't look like a team with only three points but the reality is that's where we are. Keep continuing to build, we're doing the right things."
'I'm not fully satisfied with 2-2'published at 22:50 GMT 30 December 2025
22:50 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Chelsea 2-2 Bournemouth
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We all wanted to play a lot better and to forget this [first] 45 minutes against Brentford and finish proud of the performance whatever the result.
"The reward is not massive, at the end it is a draw and one point, but we have to be humble in this moment when everything is costing us a lot. Take the point and go slowly, slowly, keep growing in our performances and keep persisting.
"It is a great chance to have. Enes [Unal] has done very well and gave us this energy that we were probably lacking in the last part of the game. I think they've had more of the ball but we had better chances. I'm not fully satisfied with 2-2 to be honest."
On Antoine Semenyo's future: "I don't know what is going to happen but he will definitely play [v Arsenal]. This is not his last game."
'A point the least we deserved'published at 22:49 GMT 30 December 2025
22:49 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves
Wolves boss Rob Edwards speaking to Sky Sports: "We had some good chances. At least we take something from the game, we've had a few good performances - especially away from home - and not got the results so it's progress. Nice to take a point, it's the least we deserved tonight.
"That was the challenge to come here to win. We had a good plan and we really believed. To go 1-0 down here is difficult but we kept fighting, we deserved the goal at the end of the first half I thought we were really good in the first half. Second half they probably had more of the possession. We almost gifted them one and they had the offside goal. We still had a chance in the second half so we could've taken more from the game but the performance level, the quality and desire was there from the players - that's why the fans were happy at the end."
On Ladislav Krejci goal: "We were pushing, we had good numbers. It [the goal] was well taken. We were pushing, great timing but nothing less than what we deserved. The chances were there but we showed good moments of control, took the ball. You can't come here and just defend so there was a lot to like about the performance. Lots to improve on but progress.
"We've had four away games against top teams, we've had good performances and should have taken more points than what we have. What we have to do now is perform like this at home, that's the challenge to the players. It's been more difficult for us to play there so that's our challenge."
'The better team won, no arguments'published at 22:48 GMT 30 December 2025
22:48 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers speaking to Sky Sports: "It got difficult because they are such a good team. They are where they are in the league for a reason. They are relentless and they just keep going. I thought we were really good in the first half, we were really proud of how we played. On another day we might've created one more clear-cut chance to maybe go in front, but they were really solid and really good. In the second half, they just kept the pressure on and it's really tough to come to a place like this. We knew we would have to ride our luck but they were just too clinical - sometimes that happens.
"Nothing really changed on either side in the second half, but once you get that opening goal then the momentum comes with it. When you're 1-0 up then you get more confidence and play more freely, that's definitely what happened for them. When the goals started coming thick and fast, you knew it was done.
"It's nothing bad to lose 4-1 to the best team in the league at the moment. We just have to dust ourselves down and be proud of the winning run we've been on."
On Mikel Merino's challenge on him while being on a booking: "I have my own opinion, but so does everyone else. That's just the way football is, some decisions go your way and some don't. The decision might be disappointing on our side, but there are probably other games where other teams are disappointed when we get decisions.
"I always have my own opinion, sometimes it might be right and sometimes it might be delusional. The better team won today, so there can be no arguments."

Fair play to Wolves. If you look at who they’ve drawn to, Bournemouth, Tottenham and Man United, those are good teams to draw to, and they’ve pushed even bigger teams like Arsenal and Liverpool to the edge. Just a shame that they don’t seem to have enough time to recover.

22:46 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Burnley 1-3 Newcastle
BurnleyBurnley boss Scott Parker, speaking to BBC MOTD: "There's disappointment and an element of frustration. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb - seven minutes and we're 2-0 down.
"The positives are we showed a real spirit, a real commitment, a real fight. Sometimes in these moments - like in life - in times of adversity, spirit and commitment can disappear very quickly.
"Second half we were really dominant and created numerous chances."

The best thing Amorim can say tonight is he got it wrong and apologise. He’s losing die hard fans quickly now.

'We scored two goals but we could not manage the game'published at 22:45 GMT 30 December 2025
22:45 GMT 30 December 2025FT: Chelsea 2-2 Bournemouth
Chelsea assistant boss Willy Caballero speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We were losing from the beginning, then we were winning for a few minutes, that can happen. It is so difficult to score goals against these teams with this kind of intensity.
"We scored two goals but we could not manage the game. In that way we need to improve. We need to take the positives and the effort from the players today was amazing."
On Maresca's absence from media duties: "Yes, he is not feeling well. He did not feel well the last two days, but he made the decision [to manage tonight]. I don't know how he found the strength to do it because we saw him working and he was suffering with a temperature and other stuff. Today he asked me to come to replace him because he did not feel well."

I have always believed in giving Amorim time to build the team, but on today’s performance and many other poor, unconvincing performances from them you have to question if he is the right man to motivate this Man Utd squad in the right direction! So poor tonight!

BurnleyBurnley boss Scott Parker, speaking to Sky Sports: "There is frustration. Two-nil down after seven minutes and we gave ourselves a mountain to climb. There's one thing you see with this team - there's a certain eliteness in terms of mentality.
"For all our good stuff - and there was a lot of good stuff - we came out on the wrong end of the result. We conceded some sloppy goals we conceded."
