Your reaction as Forest sack Dyche

  1. Forest closing in on new Premier League recordpublished at 10:20 GMT

    Nottingham Forest

Should Nottingham Forest move forward and appoint Vitor Pereira - or anyone for that matter on a permanent basis, they will break a new Premier League record.

No club in Premier League history has ever completed a season with four different permanent managers in charge of the club.

    Until now?

    Forest's managers in 2025-26:

    • Nuno Espirito Santo (August 25 - Sept 25)
    • Ange Postecoglou (Sept 25 - Oct 25)
    • Sean Dyche (Oct 25 - Feb 26)
    • TBC (Feb 26 - ?)

The world is going mad. How can a big club be looking for their 4th full time manager of the season by mid Feb. I wonder if Markinakis is regretting sacking Nuno now ? What is he looking for in a manager?

    Paul

As most people agree, it as a ridiculous decision. If anyone can keep Forest in the Premier League Dyche would have been their best option.

    Tim

Ridiculous, Forest's position in the table is more than bad but Dyche knows how to avoid relegation. Any club with 4 managers in a season is the worst run club in the world. Was it his fault that 35 shots and 10 on target but 0 goals, I think not

  3. Nottingham Forest's three managers this seasonpublished at 10:06 GMT

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are looking for their fourth permanent manager; a position no Premier League club has been in before. Here's how days each of the previous three managers held the position for this season:

    • Nuno Espirito Santo - 23 days: Nuno, after a successful 2024-25 campaign, managed just three games, before a 3-0 defeat to West Ham sealed his fate.
    • Ange Postecoglou - 39 days: Postecoglou became the shortest serving Premier League manager, going eight games without a win and leaving the club 18th.
    • Sean Dyche - 114 days: Dyche lasted longer than his predecessors but fortunes haven't necessarily got better - winning six of the 18 matches he was in charge for, leaving them 17th.
  4. 'It speaks to me that there were problems before yesterday's game'published at 09:58 GMT

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

John Cross, chief football writer for the Mirror speaking on BBC 5 Live breakfast: "It really is nuts. We all thought Sean Dyche would be such a good fit, he was saying he still lives in Nottingham and he has a passion for the City but it just hasn't worked.

"It gave Forest a lift and yet it quickly went off the boil. I have been shocked with how they have performed recently and it told me that maybe the players just weren't listening to the manager and that has been reflected in the results.

"It speaks to me that there were problems before yesterday's game and I think the reality was coming and there has been talk about the brutality of how he was with the players and that he changed and some of the players didn't like that.

"I think Dyche is a no-nonsense manager and sometimes it just doesn't work."

Management merry go round is ridiculous. Pereira gets sacked at Wolves, where they clearly don’t want him, and that now makes a great candidate to keep Forest up. How does that make any sense at all.

    Graeme, Aberdeen

The way it’s going, there will be as many Forest managers this season as there were Robin Hood & the Merry Men in Sherwood Forest!!!

    John, Stourbridge

Another crazy decision by the club. Dyche was the right man for our club and our situation. The owner is far too reactive to fan unrest, and our fans need to get some realistic expectations. When will this crazy merry go round end? I just feel sad.

    Matt, Nottingham

Football management must be the only profession where you can get repeatedly sacked, with a big pay off and then walk into another job, over and over. If I got sacked I wouldn't get another job, or big pay off. A crazy merry go round.

  6. 'The season is now an embarrassment for Forest'published at 09:45 GMT

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Nuno was sacked 23 days into the season.

His replacement Postecoglou lasted 39 days.

Dyche at least made it past the 100-day mark, but his reign ends after 114.

Nottingham Forest are now remarkably searching for a fourth manager of a season which has lurched from crisis to crisis.

Forest's problems are of their own making after Nuno fell out with global sporting director Edu and owner Marinakis to make his position untenable.

Postecoglou was an ill-advised appointment, a clash of styles going from Nuno's counter-attack to the Australian's high-pressing, high-action game.

Dyche was supposed to be the safe pair of hands, reverting back to what the squad knew under Nuno, and his connection with the club - having come through the academy - initially made it a sweet homecoming.

Seven wins from his first 12 stabilised the club and season to a point, with Forest mid-table in the league if results since Dyche was appointed in October were only taken into account.

But just two wins in their past 10 league games - plus an FA Cup exit to Wrexham last month - saw a rapid loss of faith from both the board and the fans.

The season is now an embarrassment for Forest. It was not supposed to be like this, with European football returning to the City Ground for the first time since 1995-96.

But after two failed appointments and the decision to sack Nuno after a breakdown in relationships Forest are in tatters.

They finished seventh last season and spent £180m but relegation is a very real possibility in a season where the club, especially Postecoglou, had targeted winning the Europa League.

The one who needs sacking is Edu! He was the one who caused the fallout between Nuno and Maranakis. We spent nearly £200 million on his recruitment this past summer transfer window and nearly all of those signings have been absolutely terrible. There's a reason Arsenal got rid of him.

    Jeremy, London

If Forest go down this season it will down to Edu and Marinakis. Dyche did a steady job after taking over the mess he inherited from Postecoglou. If anyone needed sacking it was Edu. Certainly don't want Pereira next.

    Rob, Cambridge

I am ashamed. We are the laughing stock of the league. No, it's not working, but clubs can't keep changing managers. Strange that Edu is still in a job, in spite of recruiting players who the manager didn't fancy.

    Richard, Nottingham

I think Marinakis needs to look at Edu. Some of the signings he has made have been very questionable at best.

  10. Dyche was up for Premier League award... last weekpublished at 09:17 GMT

Well, if there's ever an example of how quickly things can change in football...

Sean Dyche was nominated for the Premier League manager of the month award for January - exactly a week ago today.

He was shortlisted for the award after guiding Forest to seven points from a possible 12 in the month of January with a crucial win against relegation rivals West Ham and an impressive win away at Brentford the highlights.

They were also able to hold current leaders Arsenal to a goalless draw in the opening month of 2026.

Their only defeat in the month came on the road at high flying Aston Villa.

  11. Possession does not equal goals for Dyche...published at 09:12 GMT

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest had 62.9% possession against Wolves on Wednesday evening – it’s the 10th time in the Premier League that a side managed by Sean Dyche has had at least 60% of the ball,

He hasn't won a single one of those games (D4 L6).

Some of these premiership clubs need to look at ourselves instead of sucking the managers surely directors of football who pick players on the board or to blame for poor results bad recruitment are not spending the right money on players.

    James

Had to go, he’s lost the fans and the players. Leeds was a mustn’t-lose, Wolves was a must-win and his limitations were exposed. Poor finishing, poor dead balls, poor game management with predictable subs having zero impact. Edu should follow.

  15. 'I do not think you could bring in a manager as capable as Dyche'published at 08:48 GMT

    Danny Murphy
BBC Match of the Day pundit

Speaking on Match of the Day, an hour prior to Sean Dyche's sacking...

I think for this battle at the bottom you wouldn't want a better manager than him.

He's been there, done it, he stays calm. I think they'd be crazy to get rid of him.

The other thing as well I suppose for [Evangelos] Marinakis is if it wasn't for him they wouldn't be in the Premier League and they wouldn't be in Europe.

So maybe he's got the right to do what he wants, but I don't think there's a manager you could bring in who is as capable as [Dyche] in this fight.

  16. 'If the owner wants to make a change, that's up to him'published at 08:42 GMT

Following Nottingham Forest's 0-0 draw with Wolves on Wednesday, Dyche sounded like a man who knew what was to follow.

Post match - and before his dismissal - Dyche said: "The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt. If anyone chooses to change in football now, that's their decision. We've all seen it."

Great News for West Ham - if anyone was going to keep the gap between Forest and the bottom three it was Dyche.

    Richard

As a West Ham fan, I was very concerned about the dog fight a Dyche team would give us right to the end. Now I feel instantly more confident we'll hunt them down. Cheers Mr Marinakis!

    Andrew, Hampshire

Thank you Marinakis! Must be a West Ham fan too, given us Nuno and now removed probably the best manager at keeping a team up in the Premier league. Given injury challenges and lack of squad depth, Dyche has done well at Forest.

  18. Forest put up most shots without scoring in a decadepublished at 08:29 GMT

    Nottingham Forest

According to Opta, Nottingham Forest’s 35 shots without scoring was the most by a team without finding the net in a Premier League match since Manchester United had 38 in their 0-0 draw with Burnley in October 2016.

  19. Forest's frustrating 0-0 draw with Wolvespublished at 08:23 GMT

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Wolves

As we've reported, Dyche was sacked at 12:31 on Wednesday morning. It came just hours after Nottingham Forest's frustrating draw at home to Wolves.

It was a quite ridiculous 0-0 draw, given Forest had 35 shots on goal without scoring - a peppering.

Here's a breakdown of those stats:

    • Shots: 35
    • Shots on target: 10
    • xG: 2.73
    • Possession: 62.7%

  20. Forest ninth in current form tablepublished at 08:16 GMT

Steve is not the only one calling the decision 'ridiculous.'

We've had another text in from Simon who has been in touch saying it's a 'ridiculous' decision because of Forest's place in the form table. Simon is not wrong - they're ninth on current form.

    Last six matches:

    • 1. Man Utd - 14 points
    • 2. Bournemouth - 14 points
    • 3. Chelsea - 13 points
    • 4. Brentford - 12 points
    • 5. Arsenal - 11 points
    • 6. Man City - 11 points
    • 7. West Ham - 10 points
    • 8. Everton - 9 points
    • 9. Nottingham Forest - 9 points
