  2. Pereira was on the radar before Leeds defeatpublished at 12:14 GMT

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Nottingham Forest's 3-1 defeat at Leeds on Friday was the pivotal game for Sean Dyche.

By then Forest had already started to consider their options with Vitor Pereira on the radar before the loss at Elland Road.

The interest was mutual - Pereira has wanted a swift return to the Premier League since his Wolves sacking in November - which allowed Forest to announce Dyche's departure in the early hours of Thursday morning after the 0-0 draw with Wolves.

Sources suggest he struggled to bond with some of the players and they questioned his methods and tactics, as he focused on the physicality of the squad over style and technical ability.

There was still a reluctance to part ways but the decision drags more chaos into the club and only questions the judgement and temperament of owner Evangelos Marinakis.

With a week before their Europa League play-off first leg at Fenerbahce - one of Pereira's former clubs - there is no immediate rush for an appointment before the weekend but the situation can always move at pace.

  3. What happened with Pereira at Wolves?published at 12:08 GMT

Wolverhampton Wandererssacked head coach Vitor Pereira after 11 months in charge with the club failing to win any of their opening 10 Premier League games of 2025-26.

Wolves were 19th when Pereira replaced Gary O'Neil in December 2024, and he guided them to safety by finishing 16th.

His arrival midway through last season signalled a significant change in fortunes for Wolves who ended up surviving comfortably, helped by a six-match winning run.

Such was the success of Pereira in his short time at Wolves, the club rewarded him with a new three year contract in September 2025.

However, Pereira lost several key players in the summer, with Matheus Cunha moving to Manchester United for £62.5m, Rayan Ait-Nouri joining Manchester City for £31m and captain Nelson Semedo departing for Fenerbahce when his contract expired.

Speculation over the future of Norway striker Jorgen Strand Larsen also proved an unwelcome distraction and the winless start ultimately led to his sacking, just two months after signing his new deal.

It’s clear we’ve been run terribly since the arrival of Edu. Coincidence? Nuno manufactured his sacking, Ange should never have been hired and Dyche looked like he couldn’t decide if we were a ball playing side or route one and in ended as neither. Sad times.

    William

Another one bites the dust. Even if we stay up, he needs to sack Edu and then step down himself and let someone with a better understanding take the helm. It’s become a joke now.

  5. Who is potential new Forest boss Pereira?published at 11:58 GMT

We brought you the news earlier that Nottingham Forest had opened talks with Vitor Pereira over becoming their new manager.

A former professional midfielder and experienced head coach, Pereira has managed 13 teams during his career - most recently taking charge of Premier League side Wolves.

He has had spells at some of the biggest names in world football including Porto, Flamengo and Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese manager has also worked under Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis previously at Olympiakos.

He took charge of the Greek club in January 2015 and led them to a league and cup double but left by mutual consent in June of the same year.

His spell at Olympiakos came during a period where he managed five different clubs in eight years.

All this Dyche love-in stuff ignores the fact we have no direction, style or tactical awareness - it’s been brainless up and at ‘em stuff but we still failed to provide a single cross for a 6ft7” striker! We were going down - change is sad but needed

  7. 'Pereira has a good chance of replacing Dyche'published at 11:44 GMT

    Sami Mokbel
BBC Sport Senior football correspondent on BBC 5 Live

Forest are going to have talks with Vitor Pereira, former Wolves manager, who was impressive last season keeping them up and if everything goes to plan with regards to the discussions Pereira has a good chance of replacing Dyche.

  8. Recap: Forest sack Dyche and hold talks with Pereirapublished at 11:36 GMT

What a morning so far on the live page.

We have been across all the reaction and analysis to the news that Nottingham Forest sacked Sean Dyche after 114 days in charge during the early hours.

  9. Olympiakos have gone through managers in recent yearspublished at 11:28 GMT

Any Olympiakos fans out there today? You may be thinking, "what's all the fuss?".

Having four permanent managers in one season may be about to set a new record in the Premier League but Olympiakos, also owned by Evangelos Marinakis, have gone through their fair share of managers over the years since he took over.

In 2022, they appointed Carlos Corberan and then went through six managers in the next 16 months (though some of those were caretakers).

Here's how that panned out and how long they all lasted under Marinakis:

    • Carlos Corberan - 48 days
    • Michel - 194 days
    • Jose Anigo (caretaker) - 88 days
    • Diego Martinez - 157 days
    • Carlos Carvalhal - 65 days
    • Sotiris Silaidopoulos (caretaker) - 3 days

However, there is hope for any new Forest manager. The current manager, Jose Luis Mandilibar, has been at the helm for 732 days, the second-longest serving manager they've had since the 90s.

People can criticise this but everyone at Forest knew we are on a downward spiral, Dyche was brought in as a motivator and yet players have got worse, his tactics and selections have been bizarre and we need a boost now. Definitely the correct decision..

    David

Not at all surprised at his sacking, he is nothing more than a championship coach at best. To me it surprises me that any club falls for his bluster in the first place.

  11. Dawson - 'It's got to be a quick fix' but 'Dyche was the man'published at 11:10 GMT

    Michael Dawson
Former Nottingham Forest defender on Sky Sports

More from Michael Dawson who says having Dyche at the helm was the best chance Forest had of staying in the Premier League.

He said: "It's just got to be a quick fix for me now. They haven't got time to think past this Premier League.

"Vitor Pereira has been linked. I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked. I have got no idea who's going to come in.

"Vitor Pereira went into Wolves when they were in a position last year and kept them up. Players left and you see where they are now. So I have got absolutely no idea.

"Sean Dyche, for me, was the man who gives Nottingham Forest every chance of staying in the league."

Whenever a club has long term issues whether not getting trophies or relegation battles look at the owners first. Far too many of them in it for the wrong reasons. It's their money but at least we can call them out.

    Graham, Norwich

Ridiculous, FA should impose a rule , that clubs cannot change managers more than once in a season. Like a players can't play for more than 2 clubs in a season! The owner is an embarrassment to Forest. Children spit out the dummies, and this owner just childish!!

    Jim, Scotland

If only fans could sack owners as easily as owners sack managers

  13. Dawson - West Ham 'bringing concern' to relegation sidespublished at 10:47 GMT

    Michael Dawson
Former Nottingham Forest defender on Sky Sports

Michael Dawson was asked how it leaves the relegation battle, with West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Leeds and Brighton all threatened by the drop.

He said: "The fact that West Ham in the last five games have won three, drawn one and lost one, and that performance at Chelsea could quite easily have got something out of it. So that has brought concern to the teams in and around that relegation. You could put Brighton into that bracket as well, the form that they're in.

"So there's a lot of teams looking over the shoulder, maybe not because what they've been doing, [it's] the fact that West Ham have picked up form and they've got some belief that brought teams back into that relegation battle."

  14. Tuchel extends England contractpublished at 10:38 GMT

It's all happening in the managerial world, isn't it?

    • Man Utd have a vacancy in the summer
    • Tottenham are searching for a new manager after sacking Thomas Frank
    • Nottingham Forest are looking for their fourth permanent manager and in talks with Vitor Pereira

    And now this:

Thomas Tuchel has extended his contract as England manager through to Euro 2028.

You wonder if some Premier League clubs were looking at Tuchel as a potential appointment in the summer, after the World Cup. Is that door now closed?

Maybe, just maybe, after 4 head coaches this season its not them that's the problem! Time to look for other reasons for poor club performance!

    David

The players, like the fans, are still mourning the loss of Nuno. There was something special going on there. You could see from they way he was with the players after the West Ham game.

    John

The owner of Nottingham Forest is paying dearly for the injustices done to Nuno Espirito. Nuno helped the club by avoiding relegation and also qualified the to Europe, only to be paid by sacking him. Now justice is being served.

  16. 'I don't know what Mr Marinakis was expecting'published at 10:26 GMT

    Michael Dawson
Former Nottingham Forest defender on Sky Sports

We're getting reaction all the time to Sean Dyche's sacking at Nottingham Forest.

Former Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson has been speaking to Sky Sports News and says it's 'remarkable' for Forest to be going for their fourth permanent manager of the season.

He said: "Yeah, I look at Sean Dyche's time at the football club and when he came in and took over from Ange Postecoglou. I went, "it's a great fit". It's a club that was sitting in 18th, with one win in eight and his 18 games since he's been in charge in the Premier League, he's won six, drawn four and eight losses.

"I don't know what Mr Marinakis was expecting. They were sitting in 18th. They weren't going to end up in the top half of the Premier League.

"Last year for me was a freak for Nottingham Forest. As a fan growing up, playing for this football club, last year was sensational. Those players were playing to 100% of their levels. Chris Wood scoring 20 Premier League goals. It was quite remarkable..

"I watched the game last night. 35 attempts at goal. It looked at moments in that game like desperation.

"Yes, it was a poor performance against Leeds. They accept that. But it wasn't going to be smooth sailing from the position they were in when Sean Dyche was appointed.

"I just think the fourth Premier League manager going into Nottingham Forest in the season. It's just remarkable. They're under big pressure now to get this right with 12 games to go."

  17. Forest closing in on new Premier League recordpublished at 10:20 GMT

    Nottingham Forest

Should Nottingham Forest move forward and appoint Vitor Pereira - or anyone for that matter on a permanent basis, they will break a new Premier League record.

No club in Premier League history has ever completed a season with four different permanent managers in charge of the club.

    Until now?

    Forest's managers in 2025-26:

    • Nuno Espirito Santo (August 25 - Sept 25)
    • Ange Postecoglou (Sept 25 - Oct 25)
    • Sean Dyche (Oct 25 - Feb 26)
    • TBC (Feb 26 - ?)

The world is going mad. How can a big club be looking for their 4th full time manager of the season by mid Feb. I wonder if Markinakis is regretting sacking Nuno now ? What is he looking for in a manager?

    Paul

As most people agree, it as a ridiculous decision. If anyone can keep Forest in the Premier League Dyche would have been their best option.

    Tim

Ridiculous, Forest's position in the table is more than bad but Dyche knows how to avoid relegation. Any club with 4 managers in a season is the worst run club in the world. Was it his fault that 35 shots and 10 on target but 0 goals, I think not

  19. Nottingham Forest's three managers this seasonpublished at 10:06 GMT

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are looking for their fourth permanent manager; a position no Premier League club has been in before. Here's how days each of the previous three managers held the position for this season:

    • Nuno Espirito Santo - 23 days: Nuno, after a successful 2024-25 campaign, managed just three games, before a 3-0 defeat to West Ham sealed his fate.
    • Ange Postecoglou - 39 days: Postecoglou became the shortest serving Premier League manager, going eight games without a win and leaving the club 18th.
    • Sean Dyche - 114 days: Dyche lasted longer than his predecessors but fortunes haven't necessarily got better - winning six of the 18 matches he was in charge for, leaving them 17th.
  20. 'It speaks to me that there were problems before yesterday's game'published at 09:58 GMT

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

John Cross, chief football writer for the Mirror speaking on BBC 5 Live breakfast: "It really is nuts. We all thought Sean Dyche would be such a good fit, he was saying he still lives in Nottingham and he has a passion for the City but it just hasn't worked.

"It gave Forest a lift and yet it quickly went off the boil. I have been shocked with how they have performed recently and it told me that maybe the players just weren't listening to the manager and that has been reflected in the results.

"It speaks to me that there were problems before yesterday's game and I think the reality was coming and there has been talk about the brutality of how he was with the players and that he changed and some of the players didn't like that.

"I think Dyche is a no-nonsense manager and sometimes it just doesn't work."
