Harry Leonard's goals have helped Peterborough move up to 16th in the table

Peterborough made it three wins on the bounce in League One after a hard-fought 1-0 victory at bottom side Port Vale.

Harry Leonard's fifth goal in four league matches settled the contest late on as Posh moved up to 16th in the table.

Vale, meanwhile, have now gone 10 league games without a win and are seven points adrift of 23rd-placed Doncaster.

The hosts started brightly and nearly took the lead in the sixth minute when Ben Waine headed wide from Mitch Clark's cross.

Down at the other end, Leonard was thwarted by a superb save from Ben Amos after being played through on goal by Archie Collins just before the half-hour mark.

Ten minutes later, Vale substitute Jesse Debrah's attempt from the edge of the box narrowly missed the target as the first half ended goalless.

Leonard twice came close to putting the visitors ahead early in the second half, with one effort going wide and another saved by Amos.

But, not to be denied, the in-form forward's left-footed shot found the net in the 83rd minute to send the travelling fans into raptures and secure all three points.
