Zian Flemming scored two late goals - including a 92nd-minute equaliser - as Burnley came back to snatch a point against West Ham in Nicky Hayen's first Championship match as Clarets boss.

The Hammers seemed on course for victory when Manor Solomon added to Max Kilman's header with 18 minutes remaining at Turf Moor.

But Flemming pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with seven minutes remaining when Ollie Scarles fouled Marcus Edwards in the box.

And Flemming struck again in the second minute of stoppage time after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Burnley were bright throughout, Flemming hooking an effort over from Jacob Bruun Larsen's cross and Aaron Ramsey shooting wide before reality hit in the 10th minute.

Bowen swung over a corner to the back post, where Kilman shrugged off Ramsey's weak attempt to mark him to head home. It was far too easy for West Ham as Burnley hit the well-worn self-destruct button again.

Back came the Clarets and Flemming's header hit the far post, before the Dutch striker saw another header cleared off the line.

West Ham scored their second goal on 72 minutes when Mohamadou Kante slalomed down the touchline before pulling the ball back for Solomon to finish.

That looked like game over, but Hayen has instilled some backbone in his players and they pulled a goal back when Scarles brought down Edwards in the box and Flemming converted the resulting penalty.

Burnley got the point they fully deserved when West Ham failed to clear a corner and Flemming turned to fire home.

Hayen, on his 46th birthday, punched the air in celebration.

Memorable start for Hayen

It was a very happy birthday for Hayen.

The old Burnley, relegated along with West Ham last season, would never have come back from 2-0 down with just seven minutes left, but the Belgian has clearly instilled fighting spirit in his side.

Flemming could be their star man this season and was only denied a hat-trick by the width of the post.

West Ham are favourites to win the Championship, but boss Nuno Espirito Santo has much to ponder after they were pegged back.

They showed little in the game outside of their two goals, and Burnley deserved their point, if not more.

He will expect much more if they are to go straight back to the Premier League - and will hope £22m record Championship signing Arne Engels can hit the ground running.

'We showed resilience' - reaction

Burnley manager Nicky Hayen:

"I think we played a big game today. From the start, we showed a lot of courage on the ball. We tried to press forward as high as possible. We actually did quite well, but at the end of the first half, being clinical in both boxes was key.

"They scored from a set piece where our defending made it too easy. We had chances to equalise, but we didn't score. I think their team is more mature than ours at the moment.

"At half-time, we said 'don't panic' and the moment we could bring that spark in by scoring, it changed the game.

"I know how difficult the season was last season in the Premier League, losing a lot of games. This is something that we wanted to change and we actually showed resilience today and that's why I'm really satisfied."

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo:

"Burnley are a good team and Flemming is a good striker, and this is the way it is.

"This is football, we play against teams that have talented players. They play to their strengths and it's up to us to control them better.

"I think we did better in the first half. They scored in the second half, but this is what football is all about; it's about defending when you don't have the ball.

"Of course, when you are in front and it's the last minutes of the game, of course [it's disappointing]. It's a learning process that we have to do fast."
