Wigan and Barnsley shared the points after a draw in League One.
The Latics got off to a fast start when Callum Wright's cross was volleyed in by Dara Costelloe at the near post with only six minutes gone.
Barnsley squandered a great chance when David McGoldrick raced clean through only to be denied by the left leg of Sam Tickle.
The Tykes were then indebted to goalkeeper Murphy Cooper for pulling off a superb double save from Fraser Murray and then Costelloe, before Harrison Bettoni saw a shot blocked almost on the line.
Barnsley levelled on 69 minutes when McGoldrick's cross was finished well by Adam Phillips, before substitute Jonathan Bland saw a long-range shot fizz just over the Wigan bar.
At the other end, a rare Wigan attack saw substitute Christian Saydee force another great save from Cooper.
Barnsley were reduced to 10 men with six minutes to go when Luca Connell saw red for an off-the-ball kick-out at Wigan defender Will Aimson.
