Chelsea treated the Arsenal game like a cup final and did not treat Leeds with any respect. At least they'll have that 1-1 victory from the weekend to keep them warm.

  2. 'Leeds were better in all aspects'published at 23:13 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "A very poor night, they [Leeds] deserved to win the game, they were better in all aspects. [We will] Just try to analyse and learn from this game and focus on the next one.

"It's not about possession, in possession you need a purpose. Today they were better in all aspects. Congratulations to them. After the goal we scored we had one or two clear chances, but the third goal killed the game completely, then it's much more difficult.

"It's reality, it's Premier League, you need to perform every game, no matter if you are at home or away or who the other team is. It's important to see where we are going to be in February or March, but most important is to understand what we did bad tonight and then try to improve."

  3. 'It's important for us to be unpredictable'published at 23:12 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "For nights like this, we were so desperate to bring the club back to the top level. Elland Road was back to its best. A great shift from my lads, a great performance against one of the best sides in the world.

"To win the game in this manner, deserved by chances, expected goals, goals, shots on target, set-pieces. Of course they had more possession, I would have liked to have controlled the game a bit more, but overall a well deserved win, compliments to the lads.

"The key today was to return to our best behaviours in terms of defending, in our last games we didn't give much away. For us it was crucial to reduce Chelsea to little, they didn't have one proper chance in the first half.

"After they scored it was important not to allow any more chances. The key was to be rock solid at the back. As a side that dominated and won the title [last season] I would rather stick to a base formation and give a bit more consistency and safety in the processes, but it's fair to say we are not the side with the highest quality in this league, we have to accept this.

"As a promoted side you have to concentrate to take the strength of the opponent away, mirror the opponent, play more pragmatic. I want to play more direct like we used to, but if you are promoted you have to be flexible and adapt to the opponent. I'm not married to a formation, but married to principles. I want to see the same principles on the pitch. It's important for the future for us to be unpredictable and adapt to different scenarios."

  4. 'The team are humble and want to learn'published at 23:09 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris to Sky Sports: "It's a good point away and especially in this place. It is a privilege to play here. We played our football and I was happy with the first half. We played well without the belief that it was possible to score but we did in the second half."

On Sunderland missing out on a second goal: "We tried until the end like usual. It is not easy and he gave his best but it wasn't enough. We didn't create enough chances in the second half."

On learning in the Premier League: "One of the main strengths is that they [the team] are humble and want to learn. If you don't learn in this league, it is impossible to achieve. We want to grow and be better."

  5. In recent weeks we would have lost this game'published at 23:08 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot to BBC MOTD: "Far too many times this season we don't concede a lot of chances but the ones that we do go in. We weren't lucky enough to get the win over the line but in recent weeks we would have lost this game so that is a positive.

"We are already 14 games in now and we haven't been able to score enough from open play or from set-pieces."

  7. 'We have the character in the squad'published at 23:06 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris to BBC MOTD: "We are playing our game and we believe it is possible to win anywhere. We showed the character in the squad. Liverpool have the ability to create chances. We had our opportunity to win but it wasn't enough today to get that three points. They pushed us. It's good for our fans as well because they pushed a lot and they were very noisy in the stadium today. In three days we will have a really tough game."

On turning 50 on Saturday when they face Man City away: "I don't think he [Pep Guardiola] will give me a gift! We will see but it is important to play the game with our qualities."

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea forward Pedro Neto speaking to Sky Sports: "They were better than us at everything. It's difficult to take, we have to learn from that but we have to clear our minds, it happens. We are already focused on Bournemouth.

"Sometimes it happens, we had a bad day, they had more intensity, attitude, won the second balls and had more desire than us. We cannot take games for granted.

"Of course it hurts, it's the worst part in football, Sometimes you can lose and say you gave everything on the pitch, but toady we have to take some responsibility, all of us. Sometimes it happens, we are human. We had a really good month, it's just a bad day. We don't have explanation for that. Everyone wants to win."

On starting on the bench: "I feel really good, I am fresh mentality and physically to help the team in the next game."

  10. 'You wonder how long Palace can juggle'published at 23:02 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Burnley 0-1 Crystal Palace

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The big thing for Glasner is that in what he said last week about spending you think he realises this season was a real opportunity to go for a decent league position with a little more backing.

He knew they were in European competition, it is very difficult to juggle both. You wonder how long this small squad can continue to compete in Europe and for those top four or top six to eight places.

  11. 'Really unlucky with the goal we conceded'published at 23:00 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking to Sky Sports: "A game where we didn't concede a lot or create a lot and were really unlucky with the goal we conceded. It was a deflection and could have gone anywhere but in the period we are in, it went in."

On Federico Chiesa's block: "He kept running and that's why he cleared the ball off the line. We scored less than we could have scored and the opponent was quite good in the moments they had.

"There is a reason why we couldn't beat them and why other teams have struggled to beat them."

On Florian Wirtz's goal being given as an own goal: "That was lucky as well but it was a chance that he might have been. Not a lot of chances for both teams. We were very unlucky in the second half. In one moment we conceded but we came back strong."

On Mohamed Salah: "It has nothing to do with Mo or anyone. I have not given a thought to how we will play at the weekend against Leeds. I have an idea who will start but I won't say."

  12. 'Van Dijk is making mistakes and second guessing himself'published at 22:59 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Jamie Redknapp
Former Liverpool midfielder on Sky Sports

Virgil van Dijk last season couldn't make a mistake. Every game he was imperious, but right now he's making mistakes and second guessing himself.

Virgil panics [for Sunderland's goal], backs off, show him too much respect and turns his back on it, which I don't like to see a centre-back do, and these are the mistakes that creep into Liverpool's game all the time.

Mikel Arteta on injuries to Declan Rice and Cristhian Mosquera: "We don't know. We're going to have to test them. They had to come off which is never good news. Let's see."

  14. 'Sunderland really deserved to win'published at 22:57 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa and Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

A draw is the least that Sunderland deserve to go away with. The way that they approached the game would have been the same if it was a Championship or League One game.

They find themselves in so many goalscoring positions and they never turn it down. Whether it is a cross in the box, long throw, corner, they don't complicate it.

Liverpool looked like they had no idea how to break this team down and they got lucky to get a point. On a 90-minute performance Sunderland really deserved to win the game.

  15. 'I looked at the bigger picture where we're further in the league'published at 22:56 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Brighton 3-4 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins speaking to Sky Sports: "I think since the managers come in, I've scored a lot of goals, and got assists. Always find myself playing regularly in the team.

"So to go a prolonged period without scoring and doing that, it does affect you. It has been hard, but you have to just keep picking yourself up, turning up every day, and working hard.

"You get your rewards in the end and and now I can put that behind me and keep looking forward. We're in an amazing place. Even though I wasn't scoring, I looked at the bigger picture where we're further in the league.

"Winning every week, what isn't there to love, really? So if I can add goals, it gets even better."

  16. Postpublished at 22:55 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Leeds United

Leeds midfielder Ethan Ampadu speaking to Sky Sports: "It's massive especially after the games we've had, we want to learn lessons from a few of the performances we weren't happy with.

"Our performances in the last few weeks have been better. We took a lot of pride in being able to say that, but we didn't win so we were always going to feel hurt.

"Today it felt right, I don't want to say we just went back to the basics and principles, but it felt like that.

"We know what this game is like for the fans, we have a lot of new players who might not have known. To tell them that, and when you've got Elland Road behind you, it gives you that boost and momentum."

On speculation surrounding Leeds manager Daniel Farke: "No matter who is here, we are behind everyone, everyone is on board, players and staff. We worked so hard to get to this position the last two years, now we are here we want to achieve together."

  17. 'We looked mature'published at 22:53 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 Brentford

    Arsenal

More from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We looked very mature especially the moment our energy started dropping. The personality we had to keep the ball in the right areas, it's really pleasing because we lost some players again.

"We had already lost our two big centre-backs and today we lost Mosquera. Ben White comes in and has a great performance. I'm delighted to see that because otherwise we wouldn't be in the position we're in today.

"Ben White was great. He has been training really well. I love him. I think he is a player when you need him he is always there. I'm really happy he played a really great game today."

  18. 'Those two up top will score goals'published at 22:52 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Conor Coady
Wrexham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

What I always look at with teams down there [at the bottom of the table] is the firepower that they have up top. Those two they have, Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha, are a handful.

You compare them to the other teams, West Ham have Callum Wilson but you look at Wolves, Burnley, do they score many goals? Those two up top will score goals [for Leeds]. They are going to be a massive part in how Leeds do this season.

  19. Postpublished at 22:51 GMT 3 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Chelsea

    Leeds United

Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaking to Sky Sports: "You look at the performances we've put in over the course of the season, sometimes we've deserved more. Today it all came together, more forward, dynamic and on the front foot. Knowing we were at home we knew we had to start the game like that. It's always good when a plan comes together.

"I realised straight away the passion of the fans and what it [playing Chelsea] means to them. You feel that straight away. My job is scoring goals so that's the best way I can repay them and for the support they've give me since joining the football club."
