Is there any possibility that Johnnie Jackson could just say that Dons are bad?? No more feeble excuses please about “too many games”, etc etc. Over a season, ALL teams experience the same problems

Cambridge United are tonight's big winners in League Two as their 2-0 victory over Accrington sees them climb four places from ninth to fifth - and into the play-off spots.

Cheltenham have also extended their gap from the bottom two to seven points with a 2-1 win at fellow relegation battlers Barrow.

Crewe missed the chance to move into the top-seven in their 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers, who ended a 10-game losing run to pick up a point for the first time since 27 September and move out of the relegation zone.

Not a bad first night at the office for Steve Evans, eh?

  6. 'There wasn't enough quality'published at 21:57 GMT 19 December 2025

    FT: Crewe 1-1 Bristol Rovers

    Nathan Ellington
Ex-Bristol Rovers striker on BBC Radio Bristol

In the end for Rovers there wasn't enough quality, but they weren't short of hard work and determination.

I feel as if Rovers could have been a bit more bold - when they were defending a corner they could have left a couple more men up which would have meant Crewe would have had to leave more men back, which means when they can clear the ball easier and attack quicker.

A lot of the time Crewe were able to get the ball back into the box even being down to 10 men. So, I would have liked to have seen that happen.

You can't ask for everything and towards the end they looked like the team that were going to score.

No one will be disappointed with a draw tonight.

  7. Cobblers make strides as Dons fallpublished at 21:55 GMT 19 December 2025

Confirmation of how big an impact that win for Northampton has made on their league position.

The Cobblers climb five places from 15th to 10th, moving above AFC Wimbledon - who drop to 11th - on goal difference.

That's now three wins in their past six league games for Kevin Nolan's side (D1 L2). None in seven for the Dons (D2 L5).

Northampton have brought to an end an unwanted statistic tonight.

Before that victory over AFC Wimbledon, the Cobblers were the only side yet to score in both halves of the same league game.

    Well, they've done it now.

  9. 'Nolan's new socks for Christmas'published at 21:49 GMT 19 December 2025

    FT: Northampton 3-1 AFC Wimbledon

    Peter Walton
Former Premier League referee on BBC Radio Northamptonshire

The Cobblers came out in the second half and they looked much more like what we had seen before.

In the first half they just lost their way, especially after conceding a sloppy goal. They just lost their way for about 20 minutes.

They kept themselves in the game, then a couple of substitutions made an awful lot of difference, and they just showed some more energy.

Kevin Nolan has got his shoe off - what a lad he is. I'm sure he will be getting some new socks for Christmas no doubt!

    Crewe 1-1 Bristol Rovers

Steve Evans picks up a point in his first game as Bristol Rovers boss to see his side move out of the relegation zone.

Rovers had lost their past 10 league games on the bounce but that run came to an end at the Mornflake Stadium.

Emre Tezgel had put Crewe ahead after nine minutes but Callum Morton cancelled it out three minutes later.

Crewe were down to 10-men in the 30th minute when Adrien Thibaut was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident but held on for a draw which sees them remain in eighth, missing out moving into the play-off places.

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:45 GMT 19 December 2025

    Cambridge 2-0 Accrington

Cambridge move up to fifth in League Two thanks to goals from James Gibbons and Sullay Kaikai.

The U's are now unbeaten in their past seven league games.

  12. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:43 GMT 19 December 2025

    Barrow 1-2 Cheltenham

A big three points for Cheltenham thanks to substitute Ethon Archer's winner.

Hakeeb Adelakun had given the Robins the lead at the break but Ben Whitfield got the leveller for Barrow early in the second half.

But Archer's goal means Steve Cotterill's side swap places with the Bluebirds into 18th moving seven points clear of the League Two drop zone.

Northampton see out the win and, in doing so, leapfrog AFC Wimbledon in the League One table.

It's now seven games without a win for the Dons.

Two very similar goals in the space of nine minutes by Cameron McGeehan did the damage for the Cobblers.

A big three points for Kevin Nolan's side.

The Cobblers are going to head into the Christmas break with a win, whilst Wimbledon are heading for a seventh consecutive game without a win.

The Dons are on the attack quickly now and showing some forward endeavour.

You feel as if the Cobblers are not over the line just yet.

    Northampton 3-1 AFC Wimbledon

Ooh, Wimbledon almost make it very interesting! Junior Nkeng twists and turns and hammers one towards the far post but Ross Fitzsimons is down very well to save for the home side.

    The Dons are pushing here.

  20. Postpublished at 89 mins

    Northampton 3-1 AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon with plenty of possession in these closing stages... but Northampton keeping them at bay for now.

This will be a big three points for Kevin Nolan's side.
