Grimsby's winless league run ended at nine games as they beat Shrewsbury at Blundell Park.

There was a late opportunity at each end after an uneventful first half, with Tom Sang firing over from just inside the box for the visitors before Jamie Walker poked wide at the other end moments later.

Evan Khouri headed just wide of the far post from Jayden Sweeney's floated cross in the first few minutes of the second half as Grimsby looked to make good on their control of the possession.

Jackson Smith had not been called into action for Grimsby in the first half, but he made a great stop to deny John Marquis past the hour mark as he headed Sang's cross goalward.

Sang then hit a post with a deflected effort from the edge of the box as the visitors grew into the game.

It seemed as though the hosts were heading towards consecutive goalless draws at home and an extension of their winless league run before Justin Amaluzor fired in from just inside the box in the 83rd minute.
