Anfield is incensed as what looks to be a superb sliding tackle from Ibrahima Konate is adjudged to be a foul by referee Simon Hooper.

Free-kick to Newcastle in a dangerous position on the left. Liverpool are facing set piece after set piece at the moment.

It is far too easy from a Liverpool point of view. I don't think Dan Burn anticipated it coming through, but that is a chance for Newcastle.

    Liverpool 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle are really ramping up the pressure now.

A couple of corners in quick succession before a brilliant cross from Lewis Hall nearly finds Dan Burn at the back post.

Virgil van Dijk did just enough to prevent the Newcastle centre-back from getting anything on it.

  6. 'Barnes is a man in form'published at 20:27 GMT

Harvey Barnes is a man in form in front of goal. It has beaten Alisson, but it has not beaten the post.

    Off the post!

It' a free-kick we've seen Liverpool themselves use successfully twice in the past week, a backheel followed by the shot.

Lewis Hall flicks it back and Harvey Barnes goes for goal. Alisson is beaten but the ball bounces back off the upright.

Doesn't get much closer than that.

Salah of last season would have scored then instead of checking back.

Free-kick right on the edge of the Liverpool box as Harvey Barnes is tripped by Ryan Gravenberch.

    Good opportunity for the visitors.

Slow, considered build-up from Liverpool at the back as they try to plot their way through Newcastle's press.

In the end, Alisson goes long and although Cody Gakpo wins the flick on, Newcastle regain possession.

Newcastle have not really used the set-pieces as well as they could have done.

  12. Postpublished at 20 mins

Important intervention from Virgil van Dijk now to cut out Anthony Gordon's cross with Harvey Barnes all alone behind him, ready to pounce.

The first corner is cleared... but behind for another. That one is overhit by Lewis Hall. Goal kick.

Gordon needs to come off. Not worth the risk playing with 10. Would be very surprised if we see him come out for the second half.

Newcastle were completely exposed. All of a sudden the ball was given away. Kieran Trippier did well.

Big let off for Kieran Trippier.

He loses possession with Newcastle committed forward after a long throw-in and Dominik Szoboszlai slides the ball through to Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian is all alone in the Newcastle half but he isn't as quick as he once was and Trippier is able to catch him and make the block inside the penalty area.

  16. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Newcastle

Liverpool win the back back in the Newcastle defensive third after a throw-in and the ball comes to Hugo Ekitike.

The striker goes for goal with his left foot but it's a comfortable save for Nick Pope.

Newcastle are locking on man to man higher up the pitch. They are trying to win the ball if they can.

Every time Anthony Gordon seems to play us, he's flying into challenges, studs up on Alisson, shoving Mac Allister in the chest... So bizzare, so unnecessary

Brilliant feet from Cody Gakpo to turn away from two challenges and surge into the Newcastle half.

He wants a free-kick as he drives in-field but referee Simon Hooper waves it away.
