No doubt the Charlton players will be gutted to have lost, but I hope they take heart from taking Liverpool to the wire. If they go up into the WSL, they can go toe-to-toe with the top teams.

  4. 'This is why you go through the hard times'published at 17:31 BST

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Zara Shaw speaking to TNT Sports: "I don't know what to say to be honest. For those who have been close to me over the past few seasons, it has been really tough. I've gone through things that I didn't think I would ever have to go through, not once but twice. This makes it all worth it, this is why you go through the hard times.

"Thank you to all the girls as well, they put a shift in today. That was shown in Mia [Enderby] having to go off with cramp and me having to come on with nothing in my head. I'm all over the place right now, but credit to the girls today because we couldn't have done it without them."

On Gareth Taylor's words before sending her on: "He just said to try to keep things tidy, play in the pocket, take my time, keep it clean and try to score a goal. I managed to do that, which was nice!"

On her goal: "It's always messy at the end of games like this. People are just trying to get a touch on the ball, throw their body on the line and get something. It was messy, but it was me that put it in the net."

  7. 'We have to own the result'published at 17:23 BST

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 Brighton

    Arsenal

Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers speaking to TNT Sports: "We have to own the performance and the result today. It wasn't good enough, it was hard for us and we didn't manage it well enough. We've come in off the back of some great achievements and we wanted to bring another one in this block of games, but we didn't do it.

"We didn't do enough as a collective and that is disappointing. I don't think you can ever say it is because of one thing, but Brighton were clinical in the moments they got and we weren't. You could say we came in off the back of some big performances so it's hard to prepare for your last game, but we did try to do everything in our preparation.

"It is frustrating it didn't go our way today but I have to congratulate Brighton because they played well. We knew they were very robust in defence but we also knew there would be space, so it was just about decisions and execution. We have to take it with our hands up and own the result."

On having a big end to the season ahead: "The players are going to go away with their national teams now before we return. When we do, we want to be consistent in everything we do. We have come a long way and that's why we are very disappointed that we couldn't win today."

  8. 'We are building something nice here'published at 17:21 BST

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

More from Brighton boss Dario Vidosic on their travelling fans: "We are very thankful to our fans. They have travelled very long distances, plus given up their time and their money, to spend time with us. It was similar today so we are very thankful to them.

"It is a great victory for them. We are building something nice here and I can only encourage more people to join us and be with us."

  9. 'I spoke to the girls about maybe needing to adapt'published at 17:19 BST

    FT: Arsenal 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Dario Vidosic speaking to TNT Sports: "I'm very delighted. We would've loved to play with the ball a little bit more, but I heard about the conditions of the pitch this morning and I spoke to the girls at the hotel about maybe needing to adapt. Once we got here and had a walk on it throughout the warm-up, we noticed it really wasn't a good pitch to play on so we just elected to be a little bit more direct in that first phase.

"I thought we did that well in the first 20 minutes, then we maybe lost our way a little bit which is normal against a great squad, but it was a great reaction. We were excellent defensively as well, we covered a lot of ground and closed the spaces we needed to. It is a fantastic result and it puts us in the hat for the next round.

"We showed a lot of experience as well, from a lot of young players out there, so this will benefit us a lot in the long run. We break away now for the international break, so fingers crossed they all come back healthy as we've only just got a full-bill of health pretty much."

On goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie: "She was brilliant when she was called upon, but I don't think she was called upon too much. She did make some fantastic saves when she needed to though. We know Arsenal have a lot of firepower, we saw that with the three substitutions they made, but we stood up to the test."

On Fran Kirby's performance: "She just showed the quality that she has. We spoke about her off-pitch impact in the changing room but she played a terrific part for us today, both on and off the pitch."

Very disappointing for Charlton. It was a moment of magic from Shaw to send her team into the semi-final.

Today the team that performed and showed some attacking impetus and showed more of wanting to win in the tie was Charlton and they will be disappointed with the result.

Credit to Charlton. They gave that everything.

Fortunately, their season is far from over. They've got a promotion place to fight for in the WSL 2.

It would be great to see Karen Hills' side in the top flight next season.

Wow. What a moment for Shaw.

When you are sat in the gym lonely doing your rehab from an ACL injury, you think is it all worth it?

Off the line once again from N'Dow and it feels like it could have been written in the stars. After all the work she's put in and months of disappointment, the reward is so, so sweet.
