  2. 'Once again the only one to blame is ourselves'published at 17:58 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "If it would have finished 1-1 then I would maybe still have been disappointed then but you are 2-1 up in extra time and then you concede a goal and it leads to 2-2, we are disappointed with the outcome.

"It was an incredible shot. When it was 1-1 we made an offensive change with Chiesa to try to win the game and then we were 2-1 up having to defend a long throw in. We brought Gomez in because he is very good in the air but they didn't take it long, they took it short, and it was an incredible strike. It is not for the first time this season that we have conceded in the final seconds of the game.

"So many points have disappeared for us. Of course it is frustrating. It's also frustrating that their first chance of the game goes in, that is also not the first time. Then they had a second chance when Alisson was out of his goal and they chipped it on the bar. For the rest I think it is quite good if you play an away game and barely concede a chance. It isn't as if we created chance after chance, that was not the situation, but just before they scored for 1-0 we had a similar chance where we were close.

"Every time it's just not enough. We relied on the whole season on good and bad luck and that is something we have to improve. We have to improve so a shot in the last minute does not immediately lead to us losing points. That is what we are trying to do but we have not done that yet.

"I liked our second half more than our first half. We controlled the game and a few times were close, of course you always want more. That's what we brought in the second half; two disallowed goals, hitting the bar, a goal, that is ideally what you want to see when you have so many attacking players out. Once in a while the boys should get a reward but we do not get it and once again the only one to blame is ourselves. "

  3. 'The boys have been incredible'published at 17:56 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It feels strange, to be honest. I think we could win the game. We were better in the first half, we controlled Liverpool. We wanted more cover around our midfield line. We have to play very aggressively against Liverpool and we scored a brilliant opening goal. What a finish from Harry Wilson. Liverpool didn't have any chances in the first half.

"The first goal, the equaliser, was tough ot take. They were better than us after that but the team reacted very well and we did grow. We are pushing more than Liverpool in the last minutes and their goal came in a difficult moment. What an incredible moment for Harrison Reed.

"It's not the first time I've seen it, to be honest. Yesterday, they used the end of the session for it. It wasn't the instruction. He deserves all the credit.

"The boys have been incredible, it would have been very tough to take. I am thinking about how we will recover for Wednesday night. Let's move on and hope that tomorrow we can recover them and have another session on Tuesday."

  4. 'Scoring two goals should maybe be enough to win the game'published at 17:55 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to Sky Sports: "In an away game, scoring two goals should maybe be enough to win the game. It's not for the first time this season that we fight so hard and think we have a win but concede an incredible strike. We brought Joe Gomez in but they took it short. We missed out on a good result.

"We had our chances in the first half. We had a similar one with Cody Gakpo that they scored from. In an ideal world, we see a Liverpool team that is dominant but creates more chances. We scored two goals, scored two disallowed goals and hit the bar. Again, it wasn't enough.

"The players are giving everything they have. I have to keep in mind that I have to keep them available. Alexander Isak is out and I have to overload or play Hugo more, a player who has never played in the Premier League. You have to manage that. We still have 11 very good players on the pitch.

"It's not only for us, but many teams don't create chances every game. It's not perfect but at least we've created a few more chances today than last week."

It’s an interesting old table. Palace in 14th place are just four points behind Man. Utd in fifth. Mad!!

  6. 'I had no other option but to hit one'published at 17:51 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Fulham

Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed speaking to Sky Sports: "I came on and then two minutes later they scored so I did my best to keep the boys going. I knew we were going to get another chance, I thought it would be a bit more clear cut than that, but it came to me nicely.

"Kev has given me the ball and I had no other option but to hit one. What a feeling. Not sure on the celebration, I was a bit everywhere, but a deserved point definitely.

"When you watch it, especially the first half, we had real control of the game - maybe not as much with the ball but out of possession we nullified them a lot. They didn't really look like threatening us at all and Haz [Wilson] does what he does best and gets us ahead.

"Then in the second half they put a few more bodies forward, pressed a bit higher and got their goal. I thought it was maybe offside but after we dealt with it really well and we take the point.

  7. 'We have to kill the game'published at 17:50 GMT 4 January

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think especially the first half was very positive. I think in many phases, many situations we looked good. Really dominated it, aggressive in the pressure, created a lot of good situations that we should've got more out of. In the second [half] there was not as much good but we still created eight or nine situations where we were playing five v five, four v four.

"The big miss in this game is not scoring the 2-0 goal. The 2-0 goal would just kill the game. That's what we tried. We couldn't do it and then a bit of good play from them and it was 1-1.

"Football is about momentum and there will be different momentums in games and there was a few bits where they had a little bit but there was not too much. It was more we couldn't keep the pressure with and without the ball at enough times. Still, we came into an excellent situation in the second half and we have to kill the game 2-0."

On fans showing frustration at full-time: "I think we need to focus on the positives. In this game, for me, the fans were very good. They backed us throughout the whole game. That's what we need and what we want. I think going back from this performance there's many positives to take forward. We're in a results business, so t's like we really badly want to win, couldn't kill it with 2-0.

"We always need to take the positives and learn from the negatives."

  8. 'We changed the dynamic in second half'published at 17:49 GMT 4 January

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris, speaking to Sky Sports: "We started a bit slowly. Sometimes you don't know why exactly, maybe we can be tired, but it was the case for Tottenham as well.

"Tactically we were OK [in the first half] but we didn't win enough duels, we were sloppy on the ball, the flow of the game was not as expected. During the second half, at half-time we said just 1-0 down, it's impossible to change the dynamic, it's up to us because it's about simple things and we had the ability to change those things in the second half."

On Enzo Le Fee: "He was important because he's a link player, really versatile, adaptive, so when we need to change the shape, the structure in real-time, he's always ready to do everything properly.

    "He's so important for us."

  9. 'A deserved point'published at 17:47 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Fulham

Fulham midfielder Harry Wilson speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half especially I thought we were really, really good. They came out second half and put us under a lot of pressure and got their goal but I thought we stayed in the game well. When they scored at the end I thought 'I can't believe we've lost this' and then this fella [Reed] decided to put one in the absolute top corner from thirty yards and we got a deserved point.

"When we lost the three boys to AFCON they are big players for us but if you look at our results since they've been gone it is a credit to the boys that have come in and the strength that we've got in the squad.

"This part of the season you are going to pick up some injuries here and there and you have to deal with that and manage minutes and we are doing that well. We're on a good run and we wanted to continue that today with three points but we will take the point."

  10. 'No complaints, Brentford deserved the victory'published at 17:46 GMT 4 January

    FT: Everton 2-4 Brentford

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes told BBC Sport: "I'm disappointed we didn’t play better. We were just a bit short in some areas. We were disappointing defensively today and not as strong as we have been.

"We are short on a lot of cour creative players which showed at times. [But] we didn’t do our defensive duties as well as we could have done.

"When your centre forwards score goals that's what we want. Today they didn’t have the support and back-up. If we’d kept a clean sheet we could have won. But no complaints, Brentford deserved the victory."

  11. 'Brilliant moment from Harrison Reed'published at 17:44 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we did control the game very well. not with the ball like we like to do it but we did it very well. They overload a lot of areas and we covered them very well. The load with all the games is incredibly tough. We scored two brilliant goals and we had a great chance with Harry Wilson to score 2-1.

"When we were losing, it was completely unfair for us. We scored an amazing first goal and we explored that space between the full-back and the centre-back. Brilliant moment from Harrison Reed, it put more fairness in the game.

"Sometimes we have to change and we are in a moment where we knew Tom Cairney would be important for us to start. We knew we needed cover behind him because he's not young anymore. We tried to protect him and it did work really well. I would've liked to have more of the ball.

On Florian Wirtz's goal: "It was a moment when we lost the ball. We created a lot of connections and the positions of the midfielders we have to be more careful. Looked a clear offside but the lines gave a goal. We took a bit of time to react.

"The players are doing so much for the football club. The numbers are short. Harrison Reed is not playing the minutes he would like but he is the first one pushing the others to go forward. I am very pleased for him because if someone deserves a moment like that, it is him."

  12. 'I'm sure the wins will come again'published at 17:39 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Yes that's true, I thought that [his goal was the winner]. The moment I sat down on the bench they scored. It's disappointing for us. We fought very hard in the second half, dominated at moments and tried to create chances to get through. At the end I scored in minute 95, they scored in minute 97 - a wonderful goal to be fair. Unlucky, unfortunate.

"This is a moment that can happen in a game. I was just sitting down so I did not see the moments before. I just saw him take a touch and shoot the ball into the top corner.

"I think if you are going to analyse the game maybe we should have scored more goals or defended the two goals better. In the end we should do much better. There were moments that we showed how good we were but it is up to us to stay consistent and put in overall better performances. I'm sure the wins will come again."

On playing in the nine: "As a forward player you always want to score goals to help the team so it's a plus for me. In the end it's a team sport and we didn't win so I'm still disappointed."

  13. 'A lot of positives'published at 17:36 GMT 4 January

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "There were a lot of positives in the performance. The first half was much more like we want to do. I liked our intensity with and without the ball, we created a lot of good situations but we lacked the decisiveness to finish the game off.

"The second half was a little more back and forth but we were slightly on top, and still got into those attacking situations where we needed to kill the game off. The positive is the intensity, the negative is we didn't score a second goal.

"When you are working very hard sometimes you get into that momentum where everything clicks and goes your way. Sometimes you have to work very, very hard to get the margins on your side."

On fans' frustration: "First and foremost throughout the game the fans were very good and backing us and that is all we are asking for. I am sure the fans will acknowledge the first half and they [the players] tried throughout the game but sometimes it doesn't go your way."

  14. 'I was sure it was offside'published at 17:29 GMT 4 January

    FT: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Florian Wirtz speaking to Sky Sports: "Not satisfied at all. We need points and we wanted three points today. We know there's no easy game in this league.

"The intensity we brought on the pitch in the second half was much better. We didn't press them well in the first half but the second half was much better.

"I was sure it was offside so I didn't even celebrate. I was happy that I scored but I'd rather take the three points.

"The strike, there is nothing to say. It was unbelievable. You cannot save that ball. Normally, it doesn't go in like this. The actions before could have been better, I'm not sure. It was from a throw-in, so we have ot be better.

"Again, we are in a difficult situation because we drew two times. It's not what we want, we want more. We have to get better but it's still a process."

  15. 'We showed good character'published at 17:26 GMT 4 January

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The first half we were a bit flat, without energy. That could be understandable after the Manchester City game, which was really tough and demanding.

"We were probably a bit lucky as we conceded only one goal in the first half. We showed good character to survive and then switch on in the second half and we deserved this result.

"At the end the players believed it was possible and that was the most important, you can think about quality and tactics but it is about belief as well.

"At the moment we go game-by-game and we have reached 30 points and that is good for us and gives us confidence.

"We go again in three days."

That has to be a contender for goal of the season. Postage stamp. Foot like a traction engine. Absolutely walloped it. A stone-cold thronker. Fulham deserved that - they’ve been excellent.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe to Sky Sports: "It was a tough game, it always is against Palace. Oliver has done an amazing job. We had to be patient. It was bitty at times. I think the substitutions made a difference and helped us over the lines."

On getting the first goal: "I think they were two good moves for the goals that weren't. We needed that first goal to relax us. I think we got better and better in the game."

On Lewis Miley: "He's been incredible since he came into the team. You wouldn't know it [isn't his natural position]. He's excelled in this position [at full-back]. He's doing a great job in the team."

On back-to-back wins: "It's a better position but we've got more work to do. We've got a massive month ahead. We need to build some momentum and confidence and today is a big step forward."

  19. 'Thiago's performance was sensational'published at 17:20 GMT 4 January

    FT: Everton 2-4 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Keith Andrews told BBC Sport: "We were excellent. Personality, conviction, energy, spirit. At a very difficult ground."

On Igor Thiago's hat-trick: "Strikers live and breath [goals] and get a lot of confidence from it. He’s played well without scoring recently. His performance today was sensational. He deserves the accolades.

"It’s about consistency. I feel the team and squad and club have taken good steps forward in the last few weeks. They have earned that, to play in this way.

"We are very respectul of each game. We just keep working hard. A real appetite to improve all the time and push each other and see where we go."

An amazing finish to the game. Liverpool thought that they'd won it late on, the fans were going crazy after Gakpo stepped up at the far post.

Then Reed steps up and from 35 yards out and absolutely nails in a worldie.
