    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick on facing newly promoted sides: "That is the beauty of the new season.

"Certainly, for teams coming up in the league, for the most part, there tend to be quite a few changes in the playing group, so that is always the challenge playing against them.

"There is that freshness, there is that buzz around the football club of coming into the Premier League and what that brings.

"Again, we are fully aware of that, we will be prepared, obviously. Mentally and physically we have done a lot of work. Mentally, we will be prepared. We know what the game is going to bring and how good we need to be to bring the right result."

  2. 'We have the potential to achieve things'published at 17:55 BST 20 August

Hull City v Manchester United (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick on pushing for the title: "It is going to be a jump. Whenever I say, it doesn't really matter whether I say we can or can’t. I would never say we can’t. I don't believe that.

"Whatever I say, it is about what we do and what we can do, what we are capable of doing. What we believe we can do as a group. I think the run of form we had last season gave us a lot of confidence, but we know there is a whole new step to make as a group.

"We're pushing to do that. It is exciting. We have the potential to achieve things. We are definitely giving everything that we can. We have got to believe that we're a good team and that we can do good things."

"We are certainly working towards that, and making the most of the situation that we have and trying to improve things, trying to move forward.

"I said the same thing to you last time, so certainly trying to make the most of the opportunities to finish the window stronger than when we went into it. I think we're in a good way to doing that."

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick on Marcus Rashford: "It has been pretty obvious that Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Martinez] pretty much in Dublin that he has come back fantastically well.

"He is enjoying his football, he looks fit, strong and looks ready to play football. I have been delighted with him since he came back.

"Of course, he can play through the middle, he has done. I wouldn't say it is naturally his number one position, but he can do that.

"I think we have got forwards that give us that flexibility right across the frontline that we have used all of them pretty much in slightly different roles.

"I think for us to have that option is really good going through the season."

"I think it is a tough start. Both teams, but not getting past Saturday, I think a newly promoted team away from home is a tough, tough game.

"I have been involved in them in the past, so I am fully aware of what's at stake and what's coming at us on Saturday and what we have to be ready for.

"It is not favourable. It is an easy thing to throw out there, but it's pretty ridiculous in a certain way."

  6. 'Mason will be back very, very soon'published at 17:42 BST 20 August

Hull City v Manchester United (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick on Mason Mount: "First of all, Mason is a top player. We have seen that so far. Pre-season, he was one of our best players in the early stages in the games that he played. I thought he was fantastic, not surprising what I have seen before, what I expect and what I know of him.

"He has picked up a bit of a knock, there are no dramas. It is nothing major. Of course, he has missed some football over recent years, and he wants to be fit and wants to be in that full rhythm and wants stay fit, so we're doing our best to help him do that, but he is a top player, Mason.

"The same as recovery, we have got to manage the squad, there are going to be injuries through the season, and we have to have a squad that is strong enough to have a really good top starting team with depth to carry us through the season. Mason will be back very, very soon. If not immediately."

"Matthias [De Ligt] has been out for a long period of time, but he is training. Great to have him back. He won’t be involved, but he's in good shape and moving in a good direction, so that is a good bonus for us really.

"Ben [Sesko] is back training, so that's another positive and looking forward to having him back around the ground and getting him some minutes as well.

"Managing Mason [Mount] a little bit, but he is very close, so it is touch and go for the weekend really and going into next week."

Nottingham Forest v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner on whether the club should be aiming for European football again this season: "We have to respect our opposition. The reality is we ended last season in 16th place so it makes no sense talking about that at the moment. It would mean doing better than at least eight other teams did last year.

"It also doesn't align with how I am as a person. I'm always very humble, I'm not a loud speaker, I'm fine with admitting everyone is doing a good job at being ambitious and so far we are the team spending the least money in the Premier League."

  11. Transfer business 'not like Christmas'published at 17:29 BST 20 August

Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner on how many more incomings he is expecting before the end of the transfer window: "It will just be one or two players, I'm very confident it won't be more. We already know which players we want to bring in, now it's about getting those deals done. We do have other options with the same profile, though, if those deals can't be done. It's not always the case where you wish for something and you get the gift like at Christmas."

When asked what positions the club are looking to reinforce, he replied: "Nice try!"

  12. Glasner outlines steps to make City Ground 'our fortress'published at 17:27 BST 20 August

Nottingham Forest v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner on the City Ground atmosphere: "I'm really looking forward to the first official game after our two friendlies here. I've already experienced the great atmosphere already, the fans clearly have a lot of passion and support for their team.

"Our job is to deepen the bond between the fans and the squad. I've learned that the fans don't expect you to win every single game, they do expect you to fight for every single ball though. If we do that, the City Ground will be our fortress."

  13. Yates and Savona ruled outpublished at 17:25 BST 20 August

Nottingham Forest v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner started off by providing an injury update: "Ryan Yates and Nicolo Savona won't make the matchday squad. We still have 23 fit on-field players though, so we will have a very big squad. I will make my decisions tomorrow, but those two players won't be available."

On Savona's road to recovery after undergoing surgery in March: "We did think he would be further on in his recovery than he is right now. He had a minor set-back as his knee reacted to the increased load more than we wanted it to. He is back working in the gym again and preparing his knee to go back on grass. It will take a couple of weeks, I would guess."

"Players want to stay in Sunderland and that is big. It is quality not quantity and we want the same dynamic as last seasons.

"We are clear in what we are looking for but it is hard because the market isn’t easy but we stay clear on what we want."
