Well, if that opening game is anything to go by, this is going to be a very enjoyable Championship season.

Wolves, in their first match in the second tier for eight years after relegation from the Premier League, got a proper EFL welcome from Blackburn.

Rovers looked like they were on course for an excellent three points in Tony Mowbray's first game in charge since his return to the club.

But it was another returning hero who salvaged a late draw for Wolves as Raul Jimenez stuck away a 93rd-minute penalty.

Cesar Peixoto will no doubt be a manager under pressure as Wolves look for an instant return to the top flight, while there was plenty of reason for encouragement for Blackburn.

Wolves

Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto speaking to Sky Sports:

"I think not the result we wanted. We wanted to win, we tried to win. I think in the first half we are better, we create a lot of situations and they score.

"In the second half, we suffer, we concede the goal. And then after that, we played more with the heart than the head and with the brain.

"We lost organisation and it was more difficult after that. We lost also Yerson [Mosquera], with one less player.

"We had a big heart to fight until the end. Like I want, the team never gave up. It's important.

"But again, we need to analyse to see what we need to improve. We have to stay organised during the 90 minutes.

"It's normal at this time of the season that we don't always stay for 90 minutes at the level we want.

"I think we deserved one point but we wanted the three points."

Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray speaking to Sky Sports:

"Having been in the dressing room now and watched the still picture, it [the penalty] looks like it's outside the box to me.

"These lads aren't stupid, they wouldn't handle the ball but if it hits him on the hand and it's away from his body, it's modern day football I suppose but it still looks outside the box to me."

On his team's performance: "Yeah, alright. I think we can get better and we have to get better.

"We have to be more dominant with the ball and more of a goal threat.

"We only scored 42 goals last season and it's not enough. By 30-odd goals it's not enough.

"Where we're going to get them from, we've done a lot of work in pre-season on trying to hurt teams and putting balls in the right areas.

"They brought some of that today. We have to be better of course."

Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn defender Ryan Alebiosu speaking to Sky Sports:

"Obviously frustrated, the decision going against us. The boys did everything they could to get three points and just final things at the end. It's frustrating."

On the penalty decision: "The ball has just been played and I thought I was outside of the box.

"Obviously the decision came against us and it's just frustrating to be honest."

On the performance: "We dug deep, we thought we had it. I can't fault anyone. Everyone put in a shift. Everyone did everything they could have. I'm proud of everyone.

"Just the final details. The boys deserved the three points. If we play like that every week, I'm sure we will go far in the table.

"Playing against a big Wolves team that just came down from the Premier League, it was a great result.

"Playing week in, week out like that, I'm sure we'll do just fine."

Wolves

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez speaking to Sky Sports:

"It's really amazing to be back and scoring in the first game in the league. It's not the result we were looking for.

"Our first home game of the new season, so we need to learn but all the games are going to be difficult here, it doesn't matter who we play against.

"We need to learn and keep going. It's just the start."

On his goal and buying every fan a scarf in the South Bank:

"It's nice to give them back some love they were showing me for the past eight years.

"Even when I was not here at the club, they were showing me their love."

On the overall team performance: "We need to control better the game. We need to keep moving the ball and try and make them feel desperate."

First of all, a great start to this season. Hopefully many more like that.

I think Wolves got away with one if I'm being honest in terms of their second half performance.

Yes, they had lots of the ball but didn't do anywhere near enough. Got into some good areas out wide but lacked quality.

I thought Blackburn were excellent throughout and deservedly took the lead and seemed pretty comfortable.

Huge decision [for the penalty], really difficult to say whether it was in the box.

Rovers will be delighted, when you look at the game in one, they’ll be happy.

The way they played the game and moved the football was really good.

The game turned scrappy at the end and thankfully we got the penalty, I'm very doubtful that it was one but we scored.

It's the opening game, there's lots to work on but we got a point.

A pulsating opening game of the season and it ends all square.

Blackburn will be absolutely gutted. They were so, so close to a huge three points, but can be very pleased with their performance.

Wow, Blackburn almost nick it right at the end as Jake Garrett curls towards the far corner from the edge of the area but Dan Bentley tips over.

Huge chance for Wolves to salvage a draw!
