Nottingham Forrest manager Sean Dyche on the potential the club might be interested in signing another "big" striker after having a £35m bid rejected for Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta: “We love them big strikers don’t we [laughs]. Look, you want good players in your club and we have got them, but if we can add strength to it [the squad]...I said a couple of months ago when it was building up [to the transfer window] that the club made it clear there was support. They will support me, they will support the team and they will support the club.

"The owner has made that clear all along and he is willing to do that, but it still has to be the right people with the right fees agreed, the right contract and all that.

"It's never done until it is actually done. There are a couple of situations we are waiting on, but if we can get good players in then we will do it. The owner has made that clear to me."

    Aston Villa

A final word from Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on bringing in Leon Bailey, who has returned from his loan spell at Roma, new signing Tammy Abraham and Douglas Luiz, should his loan move go through: "Leon Bailey his adaptation is so quick. Tammy knows a lot about the club, training ground and his adaptation is only tactically. But I think he's going to get it quick. And Douglas is the same - players who were here before."

West Ham have agreed a deal to sell Brazil forward Lucas Paqueta to Flamengo for more than 41m euros (£35.5m).

The 28-year-old, who moved to West Ham from Lyon in 2022, has been given permission to fly to his homeland to make the move before the winter transfer deadline on 2 February.

West Ham have been open to agreeing a deal for Paqueta on the basis the Brazil attacker would stay at London Stadium on loan for the rest of the season.

The Hammers have won three matches in succession for the first time since 2023 without Paqueta, who has been unavailable in recent weeks.

However, 18th-placed West Ham remain in the Premier League's relegation zone, five points adrift of safety.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery confirmed 18-year-old midfielder George Hemmings is training with the first-team squad: "George is a central midfielder training with us, knowing everything tactically that we need. He has huge potential and maybe in a moment he can help us. This is the reason why we are accepting the injured players because we must be ready. We need to compete and build the team and be strong."

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has also been speaking with the media.

  14. Luiz 'close to happening' - Emerypublished at 14:29 GMT 28 January

Aston Villa v Red Bull Salzburg (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Aston Villa

Right, we promised some quotes from Unai Emery - the Aston Villa manager has been talking before Thursday's Europa League match at home to Red Bull Salzburg.

Emery on the potential signing of former Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan: "After the injuries of Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans and John McGinn, we are struggling as we can't manage without centre midfielders.

"Douglas Luiz we are involving [for the duration of the season] Amadou Onana will be coming back and Ross Barkley will be back in a few days."

Asked when Luiz will be official, he added: "I think Luiz is close to happening."

I can't believe another Premier League team has signed Douglas Luiz. He hasn't been 'bad' for Nottingham Forest at all, the man simply cannot move. His injury is so debilitating that he will be a complete waste of a signing, regardless of sentiment. Unai Emery cannot coach a body beyond its remaining physical capabilities.

  16. Why do Villa need Luiz?published at 14:22 GMT 28 January

Midfielders Youri Tielemans and John McGinn have both been important players under Unai Emery, who is now looking to bring in former Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan as cover.

Tielemans has an ankle injury, sustained in Sunday's win over Newcastle, while McGinn required knee surgery after being injured against Everton on 18 January.

Emery had also said the club were "not convinced" about signing loan midfielder Harvey Elliott permanently.

"The problem we have with Harvey is that this year he is on loan, and in case he plays matches we must buy him," said Emery.

Elliott has only featured five times under Emery, with an obligation to buy for £35m based on him playing 10 Premier League games for the Midlands club.

Options are required and it appears Luiz, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, is the answer.

AC Milan and England midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also been linked with a move.

  17. 'A cloud of doubt lingering over Craven Cottage'published at 14:19 GMT 28 January

There is a cloud of doubt lingering over Craven Cottage.

Harry Wilson's Fulham contract is up in the summer, and his performances have been catching the eye.

It is not often that an 'oven-ready' Premier League player of his ilk comes onto the market as a free agent, and I imagine the interest is going to be high.

The Wales international might yet sign a new deal with the Cottagers, but you can say with some degree of confidence that it will not be the only offer on the table.

Fulham are busy trying to add extra quality to their forward line this month. The biggest piece of business they could announce, though, would be that they have convinced Wilson to stay.

The hole left by Adama Traore in Fulham's squad could soon be filled by Norway winger Oscar Bobb.

The Cottagers are in advancing talks to sign the 22-year-old from Manchester City.

Fulham have moved up to seventh place in the table after losing just one of their last eight Premier League games.

But one commentator close to the club says there is a "cloud of doubt lingering over the Cottage"...

  19. Recap - Traore moves from Fulham to West Hampublished at 14:09 GMT 28 January

The day's main transfer story came from West Ham, who completed the signing of winger Adama Traore from Fulham in a deal worth up to £2m.

The 30-year-old former Spain international certainly looks pleased with his move, saying he has joined a "massive club with a massive fanbase".

We promised you some quotes from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, they will be available shortly.

But details are starting to filter through on comments Emery has made about the injuries to key midfielders John McGinn and Youri Tielemans.

Reports suggest McGinn could be out for between six to eight weeks, and Tielemans eight to 10 weeks.

We will bring you confirmation of that as soon as we can.

    More to follow.
