One of my favourite things in football is seeing academy prospects establish themselves at the club that developed them. City's academy business is good but I wonder if it becomes such a conveyor belt after a while that it gets harder to feel invested in youth prospects as a fan.

  5. Wolves in talks with Gomes - reportspublished at 12:05 GMT

Wolves are in talks to sign 25-year-old England midfielder Angel Gomes on loan from French club Marseille, according to Talksport., external

He earned his first four senior caps for England under interim manager Lee Carsley in 2024, but has yet to feature under current boss Thomas Tuchel.

Gomes, who had a successful spell at Lyon after joining from Man United, only joined Marseille this season.

He last started a league game under Roberto De Zerbi in November.

Jorgen Strand Larsen is interesting. I understand Wolves wanting to get as much as they can, but unless they sell him this window, he'll surely leave next season for considerably less than the current offers.

  7. Forest in talks to sign keeper Sa from Wolvespublished at 11:55 GMT

Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Matz Sels and John Victor have shared goalkeeping duties at the City Ground this season but Forest are exploring a move for Sa, who has emerged as Wolves head coach Rob Edwards' first choice.

The move follows news that Victor has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Whether Forest can successfully negotiate a deal for Sa, 33, is set to have an impact on the Portuguese's Wolves colleague Sam Johnstone, who has attracted loan interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Johnstone has made 12 Premier League starts for Wolves this season but has lost his place in goal to Sa.

Any move for Johnstone before Monday's transfer deadline is likely to depend on whether Sa leaves for Forest.

Sa has been at Wolves since joining them from Olympiacos in 2021.

Tottenham's Antonin Kinsky is a target for West Ham this month, but the north London club are unlikely to let the 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper leave without a replacement.

One of the best January signings has to be Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool. He's been rock solid for years, was close to winning a Ballon d'Or, has won loads of trophies, and is now obviously the captain. He has tailed off a bit, but he's still a great leader.

  9. Forest goalkeeper John Victor ruled out for the seasonpublished at 11:45 GMT

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper John Victor has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old suffered a knee injury against Aston Villa earlier this month, and sources have told BBC Sport that he will not return this term.

As a result, Forest have turned to Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, with only Angus Gunn as backup to Matz Sels.

They are in talks with Wolves, but any move would depend on the Molineux side, who are bottom of the Premier League, being able to find a replacement.

Victor came off in the 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa on 3 January after injuring his knee while conceding Villa's third goal to John McGinn.

He left the pitch in tears and had some blood drained from his knee before undergoing a further scan.

Boss Sean Dyche confirmed two weeks ago that Victor had a "minor" operation on his knee, but the Brazilian is now sidelined for months.

Victor joined from Botafogo in the summer and has made nine appearances for Forest.

Traore has always lacked end product. If he could finish and assist more frequently, he'd be a complete cheat code. He's ridiculously physical and faster than anyone, but sadly he's always fallen just a bit short. For West Ham, though, he's a necessity - they severely lack energy, and Adama has it in abundance.

This is another story that has been rumbling under, but should soon reach a conclusion...

Flamengo are close to re-signing West Ham forward Lucas Paqueta for more than 41m euros (£35.5m).

The 28-year-old, who moved to West Ham from Lyon in 2022, wants to join Brazilian club Flamengo before the winter transfer deadline on 2 February.

West Ham have been open to agreeing a deal for Paqueta on the basis the Brazil attacker would stay at London Stadium on loan for the rest of the season.

The Hammers, who are 18th in the Premier League table, five points adrift of safety, have won three matches in succession for the first time since 2023 without Paqueta, who has been unavailable in recent weeks.

    Adama TraoreImage source, Getty Images

Adama Traore's final appearance for Fulham was in the 3-1 victory against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on 10 January.

Having started his career at Barcelona, Traore had spells at Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Wolves before joining Fulham in 2023 on a free transfer.

West Ham have been among the most active teams in the January transfer window, signing forwards Pablo Felipe from Gil Vicente for £20m and Taty Castellanos from Lazio for £25.2m.

They are also in talks to sell midfielder Lucas Paqueta to Flamengo, having already sold Guido Rodriguez to Valencia and Luis Guilherme to Sporting, while German Niclas Fullkrug has joined AC Milan on loan.

And midfielder James Ward-Prowse is expected to undergo a medical at Burnley as he closes in on a loan move to Turf Moor.

The Hammers' busy winter window comes with the club still in the relegation zone on 20 points, five off safety despite winning their last two league matches, with 15 fixtures left to play.

  14. 'I never wanted to race Traore again'published at 11:24 GMT

    Micah Richards
    Former Man City defender

Honestly, Adama Traore beat me by about 20 yards [in a foot race at Aston Villa].

We were warming up before training and I was really warm so I thought 'yeah, I'm gonna see how quick this guy really is'.

I always fancied myself to be fast. No-one I had faced had really out-paced me. The only people I had struggled with on a totally different level were Theo Walcott, Gabby Agbonlahor and Aaron Lennon.

But Adama was way quicker than even them in their prime. I was just like 'wow'. My confidence was shot after that. I never wanted to race him again.

Harvey Elliott should be used as an example to young players. A move to a bigger club isn't advisable too young, he would have developed far more at Fulham, now he's in the wilderness.

  16. Traore 'will give us a different option' - Nunopublished at 11:16 GMT

    West Ham United

Adama Traore spent three seasons working with West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo at former club Wolves, between 2018-21.

He twice helped the Black Country club finish seventh in the Premier League and reach the Uefa Europa League quarter-finals.

"We are very happy to welcome Adama," Nuno told the West Ham website.

"He is someone I obviously know well from our time together at Wolves, and I am looking forward to working with him again.

"Adama is someone who knows the Premier League very well, and his qualities – both as a player and a person – will help us between now and the end of the season.

"He will give us a different option in attacking areas. He is also motivated to fight for us and ready to bring energy, commitment and determination to our challenge."

  17. 'A massive club, a massive fanbase' - Traore on West Ham 'challenge'published at 11:13 GMT

    West Ham United

"I'm so happy to be here, so happy to help the team the maximum I can and show my quality," Adama Traore told the West Ham website.

The former Spain international will wear the number 17 shirt.

"I've been seeing West Ham for a long time. It's a massive club, a massive fanbase. I've been watching since I was young, when I watched a film about West Ham. I know about the fans and how much passion they have.

"My mentality is always to do better. It's always to improve as a player, to help the team as much as I can and I always say, if I'm the same person as yesterday, it's one day lost.

"I love the challenges. I think, of course, we have to go game by game. And this is what we're going to do, trying to do our best. I think everything comes from belief. And I believe we're going to achieve what we're looking for."

A West Ham statement described the 30-year-old winger as "strong, quick and able to create and score goals" adding that the former Spain international was a "proven Premier League performer who will add experience and quality to Nuno's attacking firepower".

West Ham have signed winger Adama Traore from Fulham for an undisclosed fee, which is understood to be a deal worth up to £2m.

Capped eight times by Spain, Traore has made just two Premier League starts for Marco Silva's side this season and was not involved in their most recent 2–1 win at home to Brighton on Saturday.

Keep an eye on Raheem Sterling at Chelsea.

He's been completely out of the picture at Stamford Bridge for some time. It's well documented that he's on a big contract, and as I understand it, Chelsea and his representatives are currently in talks to try to reach an agreement that would release him from his deal.

It's definitely one to watch over the coming days.
