It's a pre-season that will see the return of fans to stadiums, the hottest summer signings making their debuts, a host of new managers, and the chance to see England's Euro 2020 heroes back with their clubs.
But with uncertainty over coronavirus restrictions, most clubs have decided to stay in the UK, swapping the sun for the unreliable British weather.
What to look out for
Arsenalwere supposed to be flying to the US to compete in the Florida Cup but cancelled the trip after a "small number" of their touring party tested positive for Covid-19.
Liverpool travelled to Austria to start their pre-season, while Wolves have been testing themselves against La Liga opposition at a training camp in the south of Spain.
Elsewhere, London bragging rights are at stake as Chelsea, Arsenaland Tottenham compete in the Mind Series.
Jadon Sancho is one of the biggest signings of the summer after he joined Manchester United for £73m, and his debut will be highly anticipated but will not come immediately given his Euro 2020 involvement.
New Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who joined from RB Leipzig for £35m, is another new signing to look out for, while Leicester have added both striker Patson Daka and midfielder Boubakary Soumare, and Ashley Young is back at Aston Villa.
On the managerial front, Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has taken over at Crystal Palace, Bruno Lage is now in charge of Wolves, whose former manager Nuno Espirito Santo now leads Tottenham.
And Evertonfans will be eager to see how former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez gets on at their club.
It's not just about new faces, though, with returning centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in action for Liverpool on their pre-season training camp in Austria.
Wolves' Mexican striker Raul Jimenez, meanwhile, made his return from a fractured skull against Crewe on 17 July. Jimenez was injured in a Premier League victory at Arsenal on 29 November last year.
The 30-year-old, wearing protective head gear, scored his first goal since his injury comeback in Wolves' 1-1 draw at Stoke on 31 July.
After the UK government announced the easing of coronavirus restrictions in England from 19 July, capacity crowds will be allowed to return to stadiums, with the majority of football having been played behind closed doors since March 2020.
However, Manchester City's pre-season game with Preston at Etihad Campus was played without fans in attendance.
City said the decision was taken because of a number of positive coronavirus cases meaning their academy building has had to be closed since 16 July.
Several domestic friendlies have also been cancelled because of Covid cases affecting some squads.
The pre-season fixtures will be completed by the Community Shield match between FA Cup winners Leicester City and Premier League champions Manchester City on 7 August at Wembley.
Champions League winners Chelsea then face Europa League champions Villarreal in the Uefa Super Cup on 11 August at Belfast's Windsor Park.
And newly promoted Brentford will kick off the new Premier League season on 13 August when they host Arsenal (20:00 BST).
