    And breathe!

What an incredible first day of action up and down the country.

Three teams scoring over 400 in a day. A minimum of 14 wickets falling in four other games.

No less than 10 batters raising their bat to mark a century and in the case of Durham opener Ben McKinney, a double hundred.

While Jamie Smith made it successive hundreds for Surrey with his 166 against Leicestershire as he goes about trying to retain his England place.

Day two will have a lot to live up, but let's give it a try though!

Thank you as ever for joining us, and for your interesting and insightful contributions.

We will be back at 10:45 BST tomorrow.

    Yorks 48-4 v Hants 251

Sonny Baker will deservedly take plaudits for a blistering spell which shattered Yorkshire's top order late in the day, taking three wickets in an over and two in two balls.

It was a spell – 3-16 from five overs – which hauled Hampshire right back into a game that they must have feared had been slipping away when they were bowled out for 251.

Yorkshire acquited themselves well with ball in hand having put Hants in with George Hill the pick of the quicks with 5-46. He was backed up well by Ben Coad who finished with 2-47.

At times it looked as if Hants might have been blown away but Jake Lehmann delivered with a 76 which kept them competitive. Nick Gubbins (43) and 18-year-old Ben Mayes (39) also batted well.

Adam Lyth's 20 (in 77 balls) glued together the crumbling Yorks reply which threatened disintegration and much will depend on how he can build with Matt Revis in the morning.

Both teams have cause to feel satisfied with their efforts, even if neither will feel they are in the driving seat just yet.

Overall though, a good day's cricket and one that, with rain expected on day two, leaves it in a decent forward position with regard to a result.

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 81-4

Josh Tongue of Nottinghamshire celebrates taking a wicketImage source, Shutterstock

Andy Gorvin survives and this encounter is finely poised at the end of a fascinating first day.

Glamorgan ripped through Notts early in the first innings, dismissing Haseeb Hameed first ball before Ben Slater also fell for a duck and the hosts were then reduced to 103-6.

But a Jack Haynes century and 59 from Fergus O'Neill salvaged a respectable 279.

Similarly, Notts tore through Glamorgan openers Eddie Byrom and Asa Tribe in reply to leave the visitors 4-2.

They steadied the ship until Kiran Carlson was caught behind for 26 late on, to finish on 81-4.

Glamorgan will hope to kick on and at least match the Notts total on what promises to be a gripping second day.

    Carlson c Verreynne b Hutton 26 (Notts 279 v Glamorgan 79-4)

A hammer blow right at the death for Glamorgan.

Kiran Carlson tries to flash one through the off-side from Brett Hutton but it gets a thin nick on the way through and it's straight into the gloves of Kyle Verreynne, who is standing up to the stumps.

The visitors were desperately trying to preserve that fourth wicket until day two.

Great birthday present for Somerset's Craig Overton, 50 runs knocked up, great hit! Happy birthday 'Big Craig'.

Craig Overton turns 32 today and is 50* for Somerset at the end of day one.

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 78-3

A tad too short from Brett Hutton and Colin Ingram pulls it away for four through the leg side to move onto 16.

Glamorgan building nicely ahead of day two. As long as they can keep this fourth wicket intact.

  13. Postpublished at 18:37 BST 10 April

    Yorks 45-4 v Hants 251

No hat-trick for Sonny Baker as Matt Revis digs out a rapid one to the leg side.

It is still two in two and three in five balls for Baker who has blown away this Yorks response in the shadow of stumps.

Just over three overs left in the day and Hants will feel they are on top.

Liam Patterson-White is on for some left-arm off-spin for Notts and he starts up with a very tight first over.

Just the single off the last ball for Kiran Carlson as he nudges into the leg side.

  15. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:35 BST 10 April

    Essex 147 v Somerset 179-5

    Somerset's day then.

Top of the table Essex were disappointed to gift two wickets to Tom Lammonby in an over just before lunch after Jake Ball took an early two-fer.

Josh Shaw picked up his first three wickets for the club also, but Somerset feared Essex's superior seam-bowling attack could get even more out of a pitch providing lateral movement.

Somerset brought Jack Leach out to replace the injured Tom Kohler-Cadmore as they used their eighth opening partnership in their last 13 innings.

Will Smeed is still somewhere on the M4 but where exactly he is now does not matter as he will still be able to bat for Somerset in their first innings at some point tomorrow as TKC's injury replacement.

Archie Vaughan, there at Chelmsford, was rejected in favour of Smeed to continue his 148* and 209* form from the second XI friendly v Cardiff UCCE that has just finished in Abergavenny.

It was a surprise to see James Rew edge Simon Harmer behind on 48, but the pitch will ensure this game struggles to go beyond the weekend.

Lewis Goldsworthy did well to back up his century here in September with a stoic 28* to get to the close alongside his emphatic skipper - Craig Overton top scorer with 50* off just 36 balls.

  16. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:35 BST 10 April

    Lancs 351 v Derbys 0-1

Lancashire only had two overs to have make a breakthrough but they have done it with the second of them and that brings the play to a close.

Mitch Stanley fired his first ball of the final over down at 87mph and while Caleb Jewell left the first he had a go at the third only to drag it via an inside edge on to his stumps.

It has been a decent day for the hosts who eked out three batting bonus points, largely courtesy of a magnificent century from their returning overseas star Marcus Harris.

His 125 and Josh Bohannon's 73 formed the bulk of their 351 but Derbys, to their credit, kept themselves in the game all the way through.

Shoaib Bashir took 4-76 and Ben Aitchison 3-57 to keep their side in touch. Plenty to play for tomorrow.

    Notts 279 v Glamorgan 71-3

Just the three runs from Brett Hutton's over.

You feel Glamorgan's main target for the rest of the day is to preserve this fourth wicket and start afresh in the morning.

Six overs to go for the visitors, who trail by 208.

  18. Postpublished at 18:32 BST 10 April

    Essex 147 v Somerset 179-5

You would have had very good odds on Craig Overton top scoring on day one at Chelmsford, particularly as he inserted Essex in his second consecutive match as Somerset skipper.

60* and 18* v the Champions last week, 50* again today as we enter the last over from Simon Harmer.

    Wharton b Baker 0 (Yorks 37-4 v Hants 251)

And that is two in two for Sonny Baker and it is a fantastic yorker to welcome (and bid farewell) to James Wharton.

It was quick, it was accurate, it landed right on Wharton's toes or would have done had the batsman vacated to leave his stumps to take the hit.

Baker is on a hat-trick at the start of the next over.

  20. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 18:29 BST 10 April

    Middlesex 91-6 v Worcestershire 191

Middlesex make it through to the close still only six down and 100 behind Worcestershire.

Where does the balance of power lie in this one?

The Pears were 106-7 in their first innings but a captain's knock from Brett D'Oliveira, 75, and useful support from the tail got them to 191.

With the ball, a combined five wickets from Olly Hannon-Dalby and Tom Taylor has allowed the visitors to roar back into the contest.

16 wickets to fall and an exciting match in prospect.
