BBL Championship: Sheffield Sharks beat Cheshire Phoenix

Sheffield Sharks proved they are still up there with the best in the BBL after victory at Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday.

Last year's Championship runners-up have struggled to reproduce that form this season, currently lying in sixth.

But, after a three-point defeat at Worcester Wolves on Friday, Sharks bounced back to beat Phoenix 91-85 and end the Cheshire club's 11-game winning run in the league.

"It was a huge win for us," said Sharks forward Mike Tuck.

"It was great to finally snap Cheshire's winning streak.

"Most games we have lost have been by four points or under, so we are right there, we are just not getting over that hump, making some mistakes down the stretch.

"This game proved that we can get over the hump and that we are one of the best teams in this league.

"This gives us some momentum going into next week."

Worcester's win on Friday stretched their own winning sequence to seven, a mark matched by Leicester Riders, who won back-to-back games against Durham Wildcats and Manchester Giants.

Newcastle Eagles remain out in front, however, as they repeated their BBL Cup final success by overwhelming Glasgow Rocks 96-67.

Rocks recovered to beat Wildcats 81-75 on Sunday, as London Lions also got back on track with an 89-65 win at Plymouth Raiders.

Phoenix had beaten Leeds Force 65-53 on Friday, before losing to Sheffield on Sunday.

And Bristol Flyers ended their four-game losing streak thanks to a strong start against Surrey United, who had previously won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

In the WBBL, Cardiff Met Archers and Sevenoaks Suns met in the National Cup Final with the Welsh club prevailing 74-63, behind 24 points from Judit Fritz, avenging defeats in their previous three finals.
