Civilians say bombs fell near a temple in Kumarapuram, Kilinochchi
Two civilians were killed in air raids in LTTE-held Vanni on Friday, civilians in the area said.

A resident in Kumarapuram, Paranthan told BBC Tamil Service that his aunty and her child, a teacher and a girl, were killed in Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) raid.

“Five bombs dropped near my shop before we went into hiding to the bunker. I got injured while carrying my child. My aunty and her child were killed,” he said.

Few other civilians sustained injuries in the air raid near Kumarapuram Murugan Temple in Kilinochchi district, the resident added.

Everybody 'shoud sacrifice'

Sri Lanka defence ministry said the air raids were targeted at “encampments of LTTE terrorists”.

Defence affairs spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella however told BBC Sandeshaya that Tamil civilians also have to “make sacrifices” to defeat the terrorism.

"Tamil people will also have to make some sacrifices"

“The whole country is making sacrifices to defeat terrorism therefore those Tamil people will also have to make some sacrifices,” he said.

The minister neither denied nor confirmed the reports that civilians were killed and injured on Friday’s attacks.

He accused the LTTE of using the civilians in their territory as a human shield.

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) says 39 Tamil Tigers were killed and 21 injured in fighting in the north on Thursday and Friday.

Two soldiers were killed and 12 sustained injuries in the fighting, it added.
