India has expressed "grave concern and unhappiness" of the growing casualties of Tamil civilians as a result of military action in northern Sri Lanka. Indian National Security Advisor, MK Narayanan, has on Monday summoned Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner, Palitha Ganegoda, and highlighted the need to revive the political process in Sri Lanka. "It was pointed out that there was need for the Sri Lankan Government to act with greater restraint and address the growing feeling of insecurity among the minority community," a statement by Indian Ministry of External Affairs said. Supplies to north India has also expressed the need for the vital supplies to the affected population were not disrupted in any manner, it said. India has also expressed concern at the 'continuing attacks' on Indian fishermen. Deputy High Commissioner Ganegoda told BBC Sandeshaya that India's concerns will be conveyed to Sri Lanka government. India's action comes after senior political in Tamil Nadu have urged the federal government to raise the issue of civilians caught in conflict with Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has telephoned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday morning to urge immediate action. In a statement, he urged people in the southern Indian state to send telegrams to Indian PM to exert pressure on Sri Lanka.
