Indian National Security Advisor, MK Narayanan, has on Monday summoned Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner, Palitha Ganegoda, and highlighted the need to revive the political process in Sri Lanka.

"It was pointed out that there was need for the Sri Lankan Government to act with greater restraint and address the growing feeling of insecurity among the minority community," a statement by Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.

India's action comes after senior political in Tamil Nadu have urged the federal government to raise the issue of civilians caught in conflict with Sri Lanka.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has telephoned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday morning to urge immediate action.

In a statement, he urged people in the southern Indian state to send telegrams to Indian PM to exert pressure on Sri Lanka.

Jayalalitha Jeyaram, the leader of the opposition in Tamil Nadu, has also expressed similar concerns.
