Whitchurch: St Alkmund's Church Right at the top of the High Street, on Church Street is St Alkmund's Church. This red sandstone building is believed to be the fourth church built on the same site. A previous St Alkmund's, built from white stone, even gave Whitchurch its name - from "White Church". The heart of one of Whitchurch's most famous sons, Sir John Talbot, is buried beneath the church's porch.
