The second round of the East Coast League was held in excellent conditions at Coldingham Bay. With easily the biggest entry to date, all categories were competitive, and non more so than the Newcomers, which was won by Fife's Chris Robinson. Chris beat off stiff competition through the heats and semis to reach the final. He then took on Peter Carke and David Bowles from Edinburgh and local Stephen Willis from St Abbs to take on the biggest waves of the day. Dropping down clean, head-high waves Chris showed just enough to edge past his rivals in a close final!
In the Lady's Newcomer category, Hermone Taylor stole the show. Dropping into some of impressive waves, she nudged Edinburgh's Lindsey Dickson and Glasgow's Laura Carse out of the running.
The bodyboarding had their biggest entries to date, with the Powners and Robinsons dominating early exchanges. Cara and Jessica edged out Round One winner Lorraine Mogford in the ladies with a similar result in the Junior Ladies. Stuart Robinson edged out his father Chris and a strong Glasgow contingent to win both the Senior and Junior titles.
In the Longboarding, it was an all Edinburgh affair with Mark Hadley cruising past James Mann for the win and Stuart Robinson, completed a fine competition placing 3rd, aged only 15.
In the open Men's Surfing, only one point separated first form third in testing conditions. Glasgow's Gunnar Grove Gaines, showed style and good judgement of waves to nudge ahead just of competition from Edinburgh's Eion Murphy and Mark Hadley.
After Round Two, the League is still wide open, with competitors from East Lothian, Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Borders, Berwick and Fife all in with a shout for overall titles. It's also still possible for competitors that have yet to enter a competition to produce two great results and take the overall title in almost all categories.
The next round will take place on April the 24th in East Lothian.
