Tangent: Where and when was the best surf you ever surfed?
That’s really difficult, ‘cos there’s been so many surf sessions over the years. But I’d say probably around the corner from Thurso East about 10 years ago with my mate Chimp, my mate Jessie Davies and a Guy called Pete Hooper from Newcastle, and it was a truly magical evening. Beautiful, blue sunset sky, and the waves were just coming out of nowhere. It was completely and utterly flat, there wasn’t a breath of wind, so it was pure glass and they were super-long as well, about 300-400 yards long. So that would be it.

If you could add one thing to your shop, free of charge, would it be a pie counter, a bar, or a huge cinema screen?
Pie counter sounds good to me.

Have you ever done the thing where you have one beer before skating to take the fear away?
We used to drink a can or a can and a half of beer and then skate backyard ramps and it does loosen you and make you slightly fearless. But as long as you don’t drink too much it makes the session quite good because everyone gets a bit amped. But eventually, you end up drunk and then you end up slamming and really hurting yourself. Or you end up slamming and because you’re so drunk, you don’t know until the next day. And it’s definitely not a good idea if you’re going to go surfing.

Are you superstitious?
I have some superstitions, but they’re just little things. Like if I play five a side football, I always have a locker number that I use, and if I lose the game, then the next week I’ll choose a different locker number, and if I win, then I’ll keep it the next week. But if I lose I’ll go back to the original locker number.

Who do you support then?
That’s classified information. I live in Glasgow and don’t want to incriminate myself.

It is a bit of a shame thing isn’t it? If you’re into alternative sports but also like football.
Yeah, I mean, it’s because skateboarding and snowboarding are seen as alternative sports and their scene is not the jock sport, or not the sport that you’re supposed to like. So if you’re into alternative sports then it automatically precludes you from being into the well-known sports, but I think that’s bullsh*t. I love sport and think it’s all good.

If you had the power, how would you change Scotland?
There would be no neds. There would be abundant skateparks for everyone. There would be classic right hand point breaks on the Clyde, and left hand point breaks I should say, ‘cos I’m goofy-footed. And there would be no poverty or disease.

What are your plans for the future?
To continue surfing for as long as I’m physically able to, to roll around on my skateboard occasionally, purely for historical purposes. To snowboard in the winter when there’s good snow and just try generally try and maintain a decent level of fitness and be happy with my life.

Finally, what would be your five Desert Island Discs?
Woah [laugh]! Hotel California by the Eagles, urm, jeez I’ve never even thought about this. That’s a really hard question - I don’t have five. I mean, I’d ring off ones and then I’d think of more. LA Woman by The Doors, any Led Zeppelin track, Highway to Hell by ACDC and, erm, Locomotion by Kylie Minogue.
