 | | | | | | | | | | | What would you put in Room 101? I'd put Room 101 in Room 101. That show is rubbish.
And what would your Desert Island Discs be? I've said before that if I could only ever listen to one artist from now on then it would have to be Zeppelin so they'd be in there. What a back catalogue!! Also Hendrix, Dylan, The Who, classics like that. I buy a lot of new music though so my current favourites change from month to month.
You won Rider of the Year at the recent BMX in Scotland Awards. How did you feel about that? It was all just a bit of fun really, wasn't it? But it was still pretty cool. I only won because Keddie was out of the country at the time so wouldn't have been around to accept the award!
What did you do that night/next morning? Partied til nine in the morning. Got up three hours later and went to the pub for lunch and then went to ride KG and Livi. Not a bad weekend all in.
Are you superstitious? No, touch wood, fingers crossed.
What was the last completely indulgent thing you bought? A pack of Walkers Sensations Roast Chicken crisps last night. The big bag.
Does being so big hinder doing barspins in any way? Don't you ever hit your knees? Does having the seat low down matter at all? No, no and no.
Your riding is pretty burly, how do you build up the nerve to go big? I don't feel my riding is that burly. I just try stuff at a level that I think I am ready to try or that I think that I have a chance of pulling.
What kind of tricks/obstacles etc are you into doing/riding at the moment? Just been learning wall rides off stairs. They are good when you go fast. I've also been trying a lot of pedal stall and grind stuff on the street. Pedal grinds on fences and benches and that sort of stuff. Under vert wallride / sub boxes are fun too. I'd just say that I'm into riding as much different stuff as I can at the moment. Not too fussy what it is if it's a challenge.
You seem to be riding a lot more street recently, is there any reason for this? Unless I get in the car and drive somewhere it's the only thing that I have near me to ride. Chris and Neil have also played a big part in it. It's good to have those guys to go ride with because they are totally imaginative with the street they ride. Edinburgh hasn't got a lot of obviously good street spots but if you work with it you can have a lot of fun. Chris and Neil have also been doing some concreting missions lately to make spots more rideable so that has helped.
Questions from Gogo: What trick do you wish you could do, more than any other, in the world? The one where you press the down and square buttons on the Hoffman BMX game.
Why do you run your wheel so far back in the dropouts, 'cos it looks gay? To look gay.
When are you moving to Glasgow, so we can get some decent jumps built here? If you want decent jumps build them yourself. It's not hard. February though.
Questions from Keddie:
When are you going to do another video? Plan to have one done for the end of 2005 hopefully. Want to be in it??
What do you think about the Scottish scene being largely overlooked by the bmx media? I don't mind. Scotland's scene has always had it's own thing going on because its stuck away up north and the influence of the mainstream scene doesn't effect it quite as much or quite as quickly. It's fine that way.
Why are your hands so big? So they match the rest of me.
Why don't you run pegs? I did try pegs and I've nothing against them but I don't feel I need them. I don't feel held back by not having them. My bike feels cleaner and purer without them. I guess that comes from a dirt jumping background.
Are you ever gonna do a turndown? Oh, the pressure!
Would you really give your left eye to be able to do a turndown? No.
Did you grow up with any riders who quit, but you wish they didn't? Yeah, everyone I ever rode with in Tranent who quit, at the time I wish they hadn't. But people come and go and I respect an individual's opinion that if that's what they want then that's fine with me. I 'quit' skating before I ever rode. I had my reasons. Other people have their's too.
Do people at work know that you ride a BMX? Yes, why not, it's not something to be ashamed of, is it?
Would you rather ride in a comp, film it, or just chill at the sidelines? I don't like riding in comps at all. I just don't feel that it brings out the best in my riding so I don't enjoy it. I'd much rather film a comp. I'd much rather ride with a group of friends.
