Trip numero dos consisted of 15 guys (16 if you include the busdriver), a mini bus and a trip down south to Bones Skatepark in Stockport, England. This trip was planned out in the mind of Ross Devine. Big Ross is a skateboarder who runs the community centre in Caldercruix who decided to take the Cruix Skatepark locals on a wee trip. Let us begin...
I awoke at yet another shockingly early time (6.30am) to see that it was raining outside. This would usually annoy me (being up so early and looking out of my window at the depression that is Scottish weather) but not today! Bones is an indoor wooden park in the North of England that I'd heard good things about, so instead of greetin' about the weather I got dressed, had some breakfast, put the bike rack on my neighbours car (El Sshwoodio, skateboarder) and headed off to Cleland to pick up Paul. On arrival in Cleland we saw a random tramp with a red bike standing next to a bench...then realised it was in fact Paul.
With both bikes on the rack we headed off to Caldercruix. Upon arrival we found nobody there, but they soon emerged from the underworld. Big Ross arrived in his wee car packed with some friends and the locals slowly showed their faces as well. When the mini bus arrived it was all-aboard and we left Cruix at around 8am. Off we went to show England how the Scots gee it some spice!
The bus trip took quite a wee while and was filled with a lot of sleeping, a lot of small talk and some interesting quotes. Some of my favourites are at the bottom. At about 10.30am we stopped off at some services in the very North of England. While most of us re-fuelled and stretched our legs, Aiden, Pete and co decided to fire out some stalls on a slightly raised kerb which proved for some good watching while I ate my chicken bite things from the majorly over-priced Burger King.
Around 1pm, and after around five hours of travelling we arrived at Bones. At first sight the park looked excellent and it also seemed to be fairly quiet, which was a major bonus. The park has lots of different areas which works well at keeping boarders, bikers and bladers happy.
After everyone started to get into the flow of things at the park the riding and skating started to get interesting. Aiden and Ross were going to work in the 6ft foot mini ramp - Ross was working the carve and flow whereas Aiden was throwing down some lovely technical lip tricks. The only blader on the trip, Billy, was getting back into things after not blading for a while which was good to see and even the big Stiff Yin himself, Graham Gillooly, was flowing the mini ramp and vert wall on his bee emm ex...DSAB style.
The jump box, which was great by the way, was officially ruled by two rippers. Paul McCully of the DSAB tribe and Pete were giving that thing a reet gid goan over. Pete was going super high on the vert wall and then pulling nice Melons and Airwalks with great style and he even started doing them over barriers and such. Paul was simply ridiculous. Huge airs with barspins, toboggans, no-handers and double tyre-grabs thrown in for good measure.
Up in the main area of the park with the wallride, spine, driveways etc even more loveliness was taking place. Boardslides and 50-50s down grind boxes and rails came courtesy of wee Paddy Owens and Taggart and of course FBM's own Steve Crandall (Brian) was on hand to funk about and take photos and film (badly).
