Amnesia - the 2004 Chain Gang story

Patrick looked around for some means of escape. He had no idea what was happening, but he did not want to be found with blood on him; blood that did not seem to be his. Unfortunately, there was nowhere to run: there was only one door and the window had security bars to keep burglars out and guests who had not paid in.
The knocking came again. "Patrick! Don't be such a bloody fool. It's me; David."
David. He knew the name, but he could not place it.
"Come on, Patrick; I'm in as much of a state as you. I can't stand around out here."
Patrick moved slowly towards the door, but the scratches on the desk caught his eye. Etched larger and deeper than any other mark was one word: DON'T.
Patrick felt a chill along his spine. Somehow he knew that word was meant to warn him.
