It's an extremely common, and often very distressing problem. 4 out of 10 people will have suffered from dyspepsia at least once in the last 12 months. Treatment The vast majority of sufferers never go near a doctor, preferring to self-medicate with over-the-counter remedies. In a typical year we spend over a £100 million on antacids and other remedies. But are we spending our money wisely? And when should dyspepsia prompt a visit to the doctor rather than the pharmacist? A cure for good? We talk to a surgeon who is pioneering a new key-hole technique that could provide a life-long cure for acid reflux - for children as well as adults.
