Saw them at Cambridge Folk Festival 2005 and they mesmerised the main stage.I have never heard music that moves you like theirs does.

Just saw Tinariwen play a magical concert to a small but wild audience in Lisbon. (Are they on an all-Europe tour?) They seemed surprised to find so many fans in a place they probably didn't know, but in fact as Ali Farka Touré played the city several times, it wasn't so surprising. They came back for a second encore even after the venue had brought the house lights back up. It's great to hear how in the influences between Malian and western music swirl backwards and forwards in an endless - and very creative feedback loop. I admit I wasn't expecting them all to be playing electric guitars.

We are seeing them this Thursday. Can't wait!!!

Absolutely Sensual! When I first listened to their music, I wanted to roll in the desert sand, and I could feel the rhythym of riding a camel. Original, Eccentric, and Hot ... Hot ... Hot music! If only I could find the lyrics in English, I would be completely happy.

I first saw Tinariwen play on "Later with Jools Holland" in the UK and thought their sound was absolutely mesmerising, I love it, I got up from my chair and danced around the room. Immediately after the program ended I looked them up online and ordered their CDs. They have hardly left my CD player since. I was thrilled to learn that they were booked to perform at Patti Smith's Meltdown festival in London in June 2005. I feel lucky to have seen them up close, their sound and vibe is just beautiful, really soulful, gritty and perfect to dance to. Their sound is like waves of the ocean or the winds that blow across the sand. I very much hope they come back to the UK to perform sometime soon. I plan to take all my friends along to see them next time! Wonderful music, wonderful band.
Iqbal, India
Hello, am from India and I just love Tinariwen's music, though their language is tongue twisting. Malian musicians are one of the best I think. The music is a little similar to our own Indian folk music with a lot of semi tones. Thank you BBC for recognizing talent by the way of these awards.

Before seeing the movie Sahara, I did not know the Touareg people even existed. After seeing the movie I could not wait to research this culture and I was pleasantly surprised when I came upon this page that let me hear a beautiful song by Tinariwen - can not wait to listen to more of their music. It sounds very spiritual and inspiring.

These boys can play all day and you can listen to them all day. Great band, connected with the earth and sky.
Aklilu Kassa
I had the privilege to see this great band in this beautiful city of Toronto, Canada. Thousands witnessed the band rocking the crowd in a crowded outdoor venue by the lake front. It was very mesmerizing and their music touched so many. After the concert, their CD "Tibariwen" was selling like hot cakes. The CD was worth the $23 sticker price. Hope they will be back here in Toronto.

I think it is a really relaxing song and helps you if you are stressed.

I tip my hat to this great band of "Berber blues". Well deserved distinction! Hope to see them again in London.

Recently I saw Tinariwen live and were great but were blown away by both Rachid Tahar & Daara J on the same bill, although album grows on me. Also Mercan Dede, who I saw last week, would have done the same - see the post there.
Richard Spendiff
reminds me of Quicksilver Messenger Service in the late '60's (Who do you Love/Happy trails era).

very fortunate that they played twice in prague, tinariwen is not the best band of world music, but the best band in the world, their vibe is a breathtaking that takes your soul to the dunes of the tassili, where all the gods meet.

Having seen them both in Britain and in Mali I am happy to say that they are one of the best live bands around at the moment, and well deserve their award

Great music!

Rich in culture, great listening to at leisure times.
Christopher (South Carolina)
Great choices, but it is only a limited selection! I enjoy African artists like Papa Wemba, Awilo Longomba, Angelique Kidjo, Panther Noir, Magic System, etc. Music from around the world allows foreigners a chance to explore new cultures, sounds and ideas.
christine, Australia
This makes fantastic music to 'think' by when doing boring things like writing a Phd. Also an exchange of Australian Aboriginal desert musicians and these people would be most creative.
Richard Dorrell
The first band to convince me the rock-blues pantheon was capable of much greater emotional complexity than we see nowadays in the mainstream. I.e.: just typing this makes me want to dance a takamba....
wen somerset
fantastic like riding a camel or a magic carpet thanks tiranawen
Lou, Cornwall
This band has to be one of the most mesmerising weavers of melody and singing that I have ever heard. They certinaly get my vote as Africa's most worthy mix of musicians around this decade. Their blues make mine fade away.
Jimmy B., CA USA
amazing! vocals traditional-added with the insturmental guitar-percussion rocks!
