
The auction for this package has now taken place, and it raised £13,500 for Children In Need.
The package is for you and a friend to spend time in the historic University City of Durham, as a guest of writer and University Chancellor Bill Bryson. The trip is for two days – Friday 5 and Saturday 6 March 2009.
Package details:
*Arrive in the city and enjoy a personal guided tour of Durham with a local guide.
*You will see the incredible sights of the city, from the cobbled streets, beautiful churches, and quaint teashops - to the hustle and bustle of University life, and the colleges at the heart of this seat of learning.
*Then, you will go for lunch in the Octagon Room in Durham Castle with writer and broadcaster Bill Bryson and take away some signed books.
*The highlight of your day will be a VIP tour of the stunning Norman Cathedral which in 2001 was named Britain's Best Loved Building. It holds the shrine of Saint Cuthbert and you can see the treasures of Saint Cuthbert within the Cathedral. It is also home to the head of St Oswald of Northumbria and the remains of the Venerable Bede.
*You will spend the Friday night in the Bishop’s Suite at the Castle, before being picked up and driven to Durham Tees Airport where you will see Durham by air!
*You’ll fly with Northern Aviation over Durham, Newcastle, Hadrian’s Wall and Barnard Castle and see the beautiful North East by air!
