Holly Valance
3 September 2002

Holly Valance in the R1 chat studioHolly popped by for a swift webchat ahead of her appearance at One Big Sunday and as well as telling us why she would never call her son Romeo she chatted about posing nude for Playboy and how she likes big, fast rides...

Watch the video of Holly in the studio

Emma bailey: from Stoke on Trent: Your new single Down Boy is out soon - do you prefer it to Kiss Kiss, and if so why?
Holly Valance: I think I do. I think it's a bit cooler and not as obvious, and I've heard Kiss Kiss about 7,000 times now so it's nice to have a fresh song going at the moment!

Shonagh Mclaren: Do you get bored of people asking you if you were REALLY naked in the 'Kiss Kiss' video?
Holly Valance: Not really 'cos I s'pose it's what we set out to do and people are just curious. I wasn't really naked - I had a flesh coloured bikini on. My family didn't mind - in fact, they thought it was fantastic! I wasn't embarrassed on the shoot - it was all very professional, and it was also very cold - a huge London studio in the middle of winter.

Ant May: What's the new video like?
Holly Valance: The new video is still quite raunchy but less obvious than Kiss Kiss. It's set in a trashy 80s motel room with lots of beautiful girl and boy models. The dancing is unreal - it's different, and I like it better.

stuart: When does the album come out? And did you write and songs on it yourself?
Holly Valance: The album should be out on October 14. I wrote a few songs on the album - not enough for my liking, but that's because I've been working on Neighbours and haven't had time. So I'm looking forward to spending more time on the second album myself. I still want quite a hard sound - the album may not be what you may think, compared to the first singles.

PWL: Do you prefer Will or Gareth?!
Holly Valance: Not really either! I'm not really into either of their music - it's not my thing...I love R'n'B and dance music. I also like the Chili Peppers and other bands. If it's a good song, it's a good song.

Nick Jones: How many songs are you going to perform at One Big Sunday in Leicester?
Holly Valance: One Big Sunday we'll be doing two tracks. The crowd numbers are scary but I'm sure it'll be fun!

Jemma: What do you think of the rest of the line-up for Sunday?
Holly Valance: I haven't seen the line-up yet - I'm looking forward to it. I like Puddle of Mudd and Alicia Keys - a bit of everything.

Mark: What's the biggest crowd you've performed to?
Holly Valance: I think at G.A.Y. there were 3,000 people when I promoted the single. I think after 1,000 there isn't much of a difference - it's just as nerve-wracking. I think bigger crowds are easier because you can't see people's faces close-up!

Barry: Hey Holly, you said recently that you preferred Aussie blokes to English guys, which is fair enough, but what about us Irish lads with our lovely soft Irish brogue accents and cheeky grins, where do you rate us? Be kind!
Holly Valance: I like Irish boys actually - the accent's kind of sexy!

Lee Berry: Would You consider yourself a sex symbol?
Holly Valance: Oh God no! I just consider myself a normal girl. It's very flattering though. I'm not treated as a sex symbol...I don't really get much attention or fanmail!

KylieStephen from Edinburgh: I'd like to know what your favourite Kylie song is?
Holly Valance: Probably Confide in Me. I like her old school stuff - but I also love the stuff that's out now - Can't Get You Out of My Head - but the radio played it too much!

It's hard to know what makes a good pop song - especially when you've heard it so many times - like with Kiss Kiss for example. I had to try and revert to what I thought of it the first time - but now it drives me crazy! I thought the song was a bit different and I hadn't heard anything like it here. I liked that. I love Arabic music - it makes me want to get up and boogie! There's a restaurant here in London that plays Moroccan music and it's really cool! It's called Momos.

Adam: do you like Truth Hurts?
Holly Valance: I do! I love Truth Hurts. That song was actually shown to me a while ago, and then I went to LA and someone had done it!

Liam Bryant: Are you a fan of Aaliyah?
Holly Valance: Yeah, very much so. I still get really sad when anything comes on the radio by her.

Azz Day: If you had three things to take with you on a holiday, what would they be?
Holly Valance: I'd take a ghetto blaster, a bottle of red wine, and my boyfriend! No, I'd take a bottle of scotch actually!

"I wouldn't have gone with Romeo but that might be fine for other certain couples! I think it's a lovely name, but that's coming from a girl who has one sister called Coco and another called Olympia!"

Lewis Round: When was the last time you saw your family?
Holly Valance: This morning! My mum and sister are staying with me at the moment. I come home and the bed's made and there's always food which is kind of cool! But when they leave, it'll be back to cooking again. I left home at 16 so it's bizarre living with them again. I was really independent from a young age - started working, modelling at 12, so I could buy my own schoolbooks and give my mum some money each week. It's hard to move out of home without financial stability, though.

Sam Quelch: There are many actresses turned singers in the pop industry now. In your eyes what makes you different from the rest?
Holly Valance: I don't know. I'll have to wait and see. I've only had one single released. I think the music's very different - I couldn't explain a recipe that worked every time - we'll have to wait and see if it works!

Paul Forsythe: Have you any plans to make a return to Neighbours, or have you any plans to enter into the film industry?
Holly Valance: I don't think I'll return to a TV series again - it's so much hard work. I'd love to do a film, though, definitely. I saw About a Boy recently - that was cute, funny.

Nick Jones: Would you ever pose nude or semi-nude for Playboy?
Holly Valance: Not for Playboy, no. If it was an artistic magazine with tasteful photography, perhaps I would. But not Playboy!

Reb VV: Do you ever want to get married?
Holly Valance: Yeah, definitely - I'm a romantic! The idea of children and marriage is exciting for me. I don't feel held down by those kinds of things - they don't frighten me. So definitely one day!

Pinky O: Would you ever call your child Romeo or any other unusual name?
Holly Valance: I wouldn't have gone with Romeo but that might be fine for other certain couples! I think it's a lovely name, but that's coming from a girl who has one sister called Coco and another called Olympia!

Phil Simpson: What's the worst CD in your collection?
Holly Valance: I don't know - I buy these CDs and they just disappear into the boot of my car. I can't think of one that stands out. I've got tons of CDs and the thought of putting them in order really kind of frightens me. I used to get to play music while driving to work to do Neighbours.

Lee Page: What car do you drive?
Holly Valance: I'm selling it - selling the baby! I don't have a buyer. It's a Honda Prelude and it's beautiful. I really don't want to sell it, but I can't import it!

Catherine Marriott: Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? Acting, singing, family?
Holly Valance: Hopefully family, or just starting anyway. I don't know if I want to be singing necessarily.

Lee Berry: Do you think that Kylie made it easier for you to go into music from being a soapstar?
Holly Valance: I don't know about easier - I don't think she had anything to do with my career really! But the comparison's aren't a bad thing!
