Have the right people won awards? Who gave the best speech? What was the best performance of the night?
(See the winners here...)
I'm so glad The Darkness have won Best British Group, it's Very, Very well Deservered!!! Good luck on the other nominations!! I love you guys!!!
Rebecca Xibalba
No!, Radiohead deserved Best British Group.. They have been around many more years than The Darkness!
Chris
WOOHOO!! busted won 2 awards!!! actually they deserved to win the third one as well.. but 2 are amazing!!!
Mel
The wrong people were noninated, so how can the right people win? what a farce
Tony
I am truly dissappointed at the Brits, the british acts sung fantastic, but the americans were dire. Beyonce cannot sing live, Andre 3000 is even worse. Where are all the British acts? its all on the yanks....this year it should have been called The American music awards. When do any of our acts get to gatecrash any of the American award ceramonys??? never!!!!
Carla
I'm so glad Justin won Best International Male!!!!GO JUSTIN!!
Tasha
Rachel Stevens should have won Best Single and not Dido. Everyone knows Rachel revived remarkably and shined with her great single 'sweet dreams my la ex.' I thought that she should have definetly won. Me and my mates are bummed.
Josh
I'm still waiting for Will to get his award. Cat Deeley looked gorgeous and Beyonce was fab but the brits were rubbish yet again!
Gareth Brown
The Brits are a load of rubbish. How can The Darkness and Busted both be nominated for best group and also be nominated for best breakthru act? That's just stupid. Doh u might as well give Westlife an award for outstanding contribution to cover versions. It's become too commercialised. Awards are given to artists who sell loads not artists who deserve it. I mean Busted winning two - get a grip.
mikee
In the past, British rock was at the cutting edge of popular music. Today the best we have to offer is the over hyped and over rated Darkness.
Ray T.
all seems pretty predicatble...not sure about Lemar though :/
ross
lemar? urban? surely not!!
david
Personally I think that the performance between Jamie Cullum & Katie Melua was outstanding what a superb rendition of a timeless classic. Beyonce I have to say may have the vote for making the transition from group to solo performer but the homage that she continues to pay to the Tina Turner school of performing is becoming somewhat outdated and tired. Muse were also deserving also rans with a first class performance but it would have been nice for them to have performed TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
Natter
MUSE are blatently the best thing is rock around at the moment. Their performance was fantastic- they should have won the rock catagory.
Emi
duran rockeddd
dredd
It seems a little eeney meeney miney mo-ish when choosing Outstanding COntribution. I'm very chuffed that The Darkness won so many, as they deserve it after an incredible year. But...Busted?? Justin?? Come ON people, get some taste!! Jeez, pretty boys win out :(
Lou
i thought the brits were dull and boring the only 2 good bits were the muse and outkast performances. the darkness are overrated and didnt deserve three awards muse should have one best rock act!
the show seemed 2 be so rushed and just wanting 2 be over 2 quickly. where was the character in it all?
aide
Surprise of the evening: DURAN DURAN! Wow, great perfomance, maybe the comeback of the year?
Christian
Muse showed that they were the best rock act by a long way - no gimmicks, no retro, just pure brain-splitting rock.
Tracy
I agree duran rocked the house!
La Luna
The Darkness are ok right now but cheese only has a limited shelf life. Don't believe the hype mesel like.
Jonny H
How come Muse wasn't in the voting for best performance at the Brits. Hows that for fair. Muse definately should have won best rock due to the fact that the Darkness have only just come into the music world and to appreciate true rock you need to work on it for a while.
Kerrie
I look at the poll on the right of the screen in horror! Best performance? Muse aren't even an option, they would easily win my vote if they were there. They were simply awesome.
Busted won too much. Nothing against the lads, they are doing well out of it, and have been marketed very well (at pop, not at rock). You see there are far more talented bands out there than them.
Darkness aren't bad. But all of their success is coming off one very good single. People will soon realise that alot of their songs are very similar. I cant see them being successful with several albums, and be innovative like Radiohead, or some other brit bands over the years. Darkness are quickly becoming arrogant as well, some of it, is acceptable and funny, but they took their disrespect too far with comments said about Oasis whilst in America. But the awards are voted by the public in most cases, so it's hard to criticise too much, just a shame people dont recognise good music as much these days. I mean, if that were the case, Badly Drawn Boy would of easily walked away with the best male so artist. But credit to the people at the brits for nominating them, at the end of the day it's the public who vote.
Adam Williamson
its good to see DURAN DURAN back they gave a good kick in the ass to all these new CRAPPY performers!!!!!!!
jonus
Will young deserved to win best male solo artist! disgraced!
Dylan
who made the comment that Beyonce can't sing live.Do you need hearing aids?,she was amazing and she only had time to rehearse once. You didn't hear the Americans complaining when coldplay won record of the year at the grammy's. I would also like to point out that without the interest of "Americans" the Brits are nothing.
Kadeen
im ssssoooooooo glad dat da darknes won coz dei r da BEST in da whole wide WORLD i luv u justin darknes
rowan
The dance category was so weak this year. Where were quality acts such as the Chemical Brothers or Royksopp? Whilst I do like Basement Jaxx, they seem to have moved away from the dance scene with their album.
Rachel Evans (dance queen)
How could Robbie not even be nominated for best male? Who else had a sell out show at Knebworth last year? What other British artist has ever played to such a big live audience? If it wasn't for Robbie, The Darkness wouldn't be as big as they are now. There music hit the big time after they supported Robbie at Knebworth, who had heard of them before then?
Other than that it was a good show. Justin, sort your hair out!
Sara
to mikee who said that the awards have become too commercialised - I'm guessing you aren't aware the Brits is the new name for what used to be the BPI awards. ie they are industry awards, given to the people who made the most money for the execs in 2003. They have never had anything to do with merit.
And I say that as a huge Duran Duran fan who has been excited since November about the guys getting their award - cos its just nice to be given anything!
Sarah Jay
Evanescence should have won International Breakthrough Artist. 50 Cent is pants!
Charlie
Absolutely delighted Lemar won. Raw talent at it`s best.Positive there is more to come. For those that are not "sure", then make no comment rather than an unsure one.
e
I thought that it was the best because BUSTED OMG i cant beleive it they won for the Best Pop Act and Best British Breakthrough! I thought that they deserve the award because they r soooooooo damn good! Their voice r the best and they write their own songs, that is why they deserve an award! I just love BUSTED, they rock my world better then anyone else!
Nadiah
Darkness think rock is about standing with your legs open. And what's clever about singing in falsetto? Matt Bellamy has talent, he's a musician. He must have been thrilled not to win the Brits.
Rocko
When they were showcasing the nominations for the Best Dance Act, I remarked that all the tracks sounded the same! Then when I heard the nominations for Best Rock Act, I had to agree that they actually all sounded the same as well! Why can't anyone produce anything original these days? The Darkness, whilst at least appearing to have a sense of self-irony about them, aren't doing anything musically that hasn't been done 100 times before! If The Darkness or Muse or any of these bands had been around in 1979, or even 1989 they would never have got a record deal against the competition at the time. Once more, its an example of the big record companies trying to dictate what we listen to.
Karl
I thought the majority of awards were fair. But I thought Muse and the Kings of Leon also deserved something on the night.I thought Jamie Cullum and Katie Melua were excellent too.And N.E.R.D should have performed instead of the awful Black Eyed Peas.
Patrick
I must have been watching a different show - I thought Duran Duran were awful. It was a big reminder of how rubbish the 80's were the first time round. Beyonce showed the old boys how to do it!
banana
Lemar, come on you've got to be kidding, since when is he the best "urban" act, he can't even sing. Itfthe judging at Fame Academy had been fairer, he would never have got a record contract in the first place, he would have been out within a couple of weeks. I think the Brits are utter rubbish, just hyped by the record companies to sell more of certain artists. Just take for instance the fact that Beyonce never won the best Single, that's the most obvious.
Gillian
Brits - too short a programme - too random performances, OutKast and Beyonce were promised as a collaboration, not one after the other, and what was Alicia Keys doing without her piano!! The only performance I enjoyed was Beyonc's - she kicks ass with that song every time, the rest were more than dull. Biggest dissapointment of the night was Will Young not winning what was surely always gonna be his award. Bring some of the more popular artists back in, and for god sakes what does it take to get nominated - Delta Goodrum whose album was so popular and sold so well, four top twenty singles - surely she deserved some recognistion. And lastly how can Britian say it is up there with the grammys and such lies when - well just look at the presenters - Twain, Lionel Richie, and Kerry McFadden - Brits committee - get a clue!
phoebesfriend
The Darkness never stop with the irony, do they? It's a shame so few people get it. I guess to relate to subtlety you have to stop dumbing-down! Stop the Brits!
Stuart Taylor
i think busted well deserver their awards but the darkness...?
well done dido as well
and who sed beyonce couldnt sing live? were you actually listening or do u just talk trash 24:7?
britz fan
Was a bit disappointed in the live acts to be honest. Muse, Busted and Duran Duran were all ok - at least the mixing levels were right! But I was frankly disappointed wih the rest. Beyonce HAS a good voice, and also a very strong song (or chorus) and I'd have liked her to be a little more original with the production - perhaps strings, or even an Beyonce & drums section: something new. Likewise the Gwen/Alicia/Missy section had great potential but the choice of song was poor - is a great song but it didn't play to any of the artist's strengths, let alone all!
Dave
I am soooo sick of that bore Dido winning every year. All her songs sound the same anyway!!!!!
Auds
I think the Urban Act award should have gon to Dizzee Rascal. Wasn't Lemar in Pop Idol or Fame Acadamy? doesn't that mean he is a Pop act? I am sorry but although Lemar is clearly talented i wouldn't call his stuff "urban". It's a great shame Dizzee didn't win any awards but im sure he will do in the future. Peace
Summers
Its a shame it was dominated by American Artists! Years back, bands like Blur and Oasis ruled the Brits, but seeing Busted winning best breakthrough was a joke for me, as of course they have broken through to the mainstream but they are a pop act! Wouldn't it be more deserving to some one like Dizzee Rascal who is promoting raw new British music. Jamie Cullen is also worth a shout. The Oukast/ Beyonce was NOT a colloboration, as they did not sing together! How disappointing, being ruled by Americans when its for BRITISH MUSIC!!!
Ralph Solly
Why on earth did Cat Deeley introduce Outkast and Beyonce as a duet? They weren't even on stage at the same time. Muse should definately have got best rock act, The Darkness should have got best breakthrough. Robbie should have got best male solo... if only he was a nominee.
lil t
Duran Duran showed what genuine talent is. When you compare them with the "here today" miming sampled "artists" that are around. Great performance. Brightened up an evening that was starting to get stale.
Andy
It all seemed a bit of an anti-climax. A few years back The Brits were far more of an event. Or maybe I'm just getting old and cynical. Dido? Daniel Bedingdfield? Lemar? Hmmmm.. Just shows the state of the British pop scene at the moment. At least we didn't have to endure Westlife or Robbie this year. The Darkness are indeed over-hyped and will probably burn out by the second album, but it was worth them winning just to see Justin Hawkins prance about on an elevated sparkly platform. And just how embarrassing was Kerry McFadden? Why?
Charlotte
I think everyone did really well!!! Congrats to all the winners!!! GO BUSTED two awards!!! WOOHOO!!! Darkness were really good as well, i dont like them but there performance was great!!! I think they were a bit cocky though saying that they ARE the best and that the award was made for them!!! BUT GO BUSTED!!!!
Daniel Alder
If there are people who think this year's winners are the best that british music has to offer, then it's very sad indeed.
Craig S
Muse were amazing, they should have won best rock act. the darkness aren't even that good, their album is very poor and they just bore me. muse are very talented and their performance was the best by far. they were the highlight of the night for me. Matt Bellamy is sexy...
abi
I think MIS-TEEQ should have won Best Urban they are so fit and they are great performers
kev
I doubt very much that the up and coming talents are even considered for Brit awards. It's always the mainstream, the ones that the major five record companies sign. they cannot be bothered to seek new talent. A and R is not what it used to be. I'm also slightly sceptical about Duran's performance. They were groundbreaking in their day but are looking tired and emotionless. Busted aren't the greatest act around but I give them credit for persistence! The whole thing was over-produced and bland.
.
The Darkness are a complete and utter nonsense, Spinal Tap funny for five minutes and now taken seriously as 'artistes'? Popular music has well and truly eaten itself.
Patrick Morrissey
I love muse, they rocked and Beyonce was soo fit. And give her credit as she sung live whilst runnin' round the stage. Busted can't sing at all and r complete cack and the Darkness, yes they're OK but they are too commercialised. And Justin timbercrap shud not even ave been nominated. His songs are dreadfull
Ben
Will IS best male solo artist. No argument!
Alison
The Darkness !! - a case of the Emperor's New Clothes me thinks. The media hype of this talentless bunch this year has been unbearable.
I'd put them in the same category as Joe Dolce - lets hope they Have the same sort of shelf life.
Well done everybody else - well desrvered - shame Muse, Blur's Think Tank, Jamelia and the Sugababes didn't walk away with something.
Stewart
Duran Duran were the MEN!! The 80s Fab Five totally rocked the house. They showed the younger lot a thing or two about staying power, performance and hell, looking good in their 40s!! Brits recognition to them has been late in coming, but well deserved. They've been storming arenas all over the USA, Australia, Singapore and now, with the upcoming 120,000 plus sellout tickets for the April tour of the UK. Awaiting the new album towards the end of the year and their DVD filming in India!! :)
Sumita aka OOMMwDD, India
gwen stefani alicia keys and missy was possibly the best collaboration ever it was pure class, alicia actually sounded like prince at the begining of the performance very soulful and then Gwen's rockish rendition interspersed with missy's rap was fab. gwen stefani looked absolutely fabulous during that performance, v glam! it was such a good choice of song as all their musical personalities were illustrated, it sparkled!the best brits ever and best collaboration ever-most unexpected!
Natalea
I think that it was great that the darkness won the best british album. that album is packed with some great rock songs. but i'm not so sure bout them winning best rock. i think that feeder or muse should have definitely won because they have produced some great rock music. people aren't really recognising good music that much now. i was happy that white stripes won best international group. that category had some good nominations but the best band won.
John
The Darkness are the perfect embodiment of the frivolity and shallowness of contemporary music. A pastiche of a pastiche. Absolutely priceless.
J Jimmy
I'm a die hard Feeder fan but even I was disappointed Muse didn't win Best Rock category. They blew everyone else away last night - including The Darkness
Be-Mused
mixed feelings i have busted winning 2 awards how?!?! but at least radiohead won nothing thank you god!
nathan
Well done Busted! Yes you are pop, all your fans know you're pop and you don't seem to pretened you're anything else. No cover versions as singles, no miming at major gigs and no boring sitting on stools. Well Done
Claire
Chris mate it's not how long they've been around its how they do in the year gone by...and i dont think you can deny that darkness havent like taken ova the british music scene in the past yr it's not how they were discovered its how they use that to show how many people how downright amazing they are...how many people could play riffs like that? nah darkness rock on!!
James
The Darkness quite rightly won 3 awards for being like a breath of fresh air compared to the stagnant state of all these manufactured pop idols/ acts that currently are in vogue. Most teeagers who buy the majority of records won't have been lucky enough to have witnessed rock with grandeaur and stage presence when it was popular 20 years ago.Everything that goes around, comes around. The record executives and public have voted.ROCK IS BACK.
Jase
Lou, come on, how can you tell people to get some taste after you've just sung the Darkness' praises!!?? They're the worst thing to happen to British music since Europe got into our charts with "The Final Countdown"! Rubbish.
Andy
If the Brits is a showcase / celebration of British music, why did we have to suffer 6 live performances from American artists ??? Beyonce , 50 pence, Outkast , Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys ???
Steve 0
Man, what's wrong with u people! The Darkness suck! Never headr such a load of s*** coming out of my radio as I did when I heard their "song".
Jamie
Watching the Brits last night only succeeded in stirring a bit of the old nostalgia for me. The awards have always been overly and obviously commercialised, but I remember when the artists used to stick two fingers up at that (au revoir Jarvis...). Last night was pretty boring, no statements made, no comical outbursts, just processed pop. There were exceptions I agree, Muse played their instruments like extensions of themselves, the White Stripes got a well-deserved tipped hat and I don't have a thing against the Darkness, they've got a lot of character and a lot of presence.
Ffion
Really disappointing, I agree that the whole thing felt rushed with no real sense of atmosphere. Cat Deeley is a good enough presenter but does little more than read an autocue, there was no suprise or spontaneity to the show which had a coneyer belt feel to it. No real suprise that the Darkness won 3 as the music industry and media seem to have latched onto them and bask in the "coolness" they think they have in the hope it reflects back on them. If Tony Blair says he is fan questions must be asked about credibility!
Liz
I think Lemar should have won best british breakthrough not Busted. Robbie Willians should have been nominated for Best British male after his sell out show at Knebworth! Outkast were cool!
Kirsty S
Blur should have won Best Bristish Album as it is the best work they have ever done and was by far the best album of last year. The Darkness are ok, but this whole glam rock thing has been done before, lets have something new.
Chris Randall
The Brits was very disappointing, The Darkness are good but very over rated, artist like Jamie Cullum (who is brilliant) will always be over looked at such award cermonies as they are mainly based on what's popular not talent and real quality music. It's a pity really, especially as we model the brit awards on being as big as the Grammys - if this is our best, then no wonder the americans lead this industry.
H
Where were the Stereophonics? Nowhere! HAHAHAhahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Bad Rod Stewart
All utter crap. Dull dull dull dull dull. If people really think the Darkness "rock" or are a "breath of fresh air" then I despair. Have you never seen Poison or Motley Crue?
Bored
No mention of the only true artist Dizzee Rascal, I guess he meant "Being a celebrity, don't mean **** to me"
Ummar
Am so happydat 50 won something
T.j
If Dido, The Darkness, Busted and Daniel Beddingfield are all that the Brits think this country has to offer, then i'm leaving the country, byeeeeee
Darren
Does no-one else feel that with so many award ceremonies these days, each one has kind of lost its value. I mean every band/artist seems to have won something at some point now, whether its a brit or a smash hit(!) award. When left to judges they go for the most people friendly choice, and when left to the public, they go with the most publicised act. My point is proved by the darkness, busted, justin etc etc. Predictable...!
Nick B, Aberdeen
I don't usually get involved, but I am making an exception here. Lemar is one of the best male soul sings to come out of the uk since Omar!!! I also think that he should have won the award and I also think that he is good enough to crack America. He need to work on his image and his presence in his video, apart from that good luck Lemar. I have backed you from day one on fame academy.
Andrew
Well overall the Brits weren’t too bad I thought, most of the comments on here are quite pretentious and don’t really take into consideration that these bands have won awards for reasons and those reasons are that they are loved by our general public. Also it’s not just about the music these days it’s also about the image. If you can pull it off why not? Well done to the guys that found a gap in the market and I hope more success comes your way!
Alex
Having a good voice doesn't mean you are a good live act. I was disappointed the first time I heard Beyonce live and her performance at the Brits just confirm that. I like The Darkness but I dislike more Justin "speech" are they getting just a little above themselves? They won two awards too many. We know the Brits are about the artists that have sold more recordds and records sales depend on how good the marketing is so basically it's all a lot of crap. Where were Funeral For A Friend?
Frankie
Duran Duran = the best in the show, of course!!!
Silvia in Portugal
I thought the performance by Jamie Cullum and Katie Melua was absolutely fantastic and Katie so should have been nominated for something. Loved the Alicia/Gwen/Missy and Busted and 50 Cent and Duran Duran should have done more songs!!! Will Young blatently should have won Best Male, someone else other than Dido should have won Best Single but overall, I was impressed. Apart from the crappy presenting and the sense that the whole thing hadn't been put together very well - Scarlett Johansson, big star, looked totally confused as to what was going on! And Dermot O Leary should have done more!
Rach
The White Stripes deservedly winning an award.
They also gave the best and funniest speech. Meg sitting on the triple tremelo, "Jack" in a box. Very funny, and yes! they are the best band in the whole of the magical kingdom!
Sarah Mae Buckley
Im dead chuffed that Basement Jaxx won an award, went to see them in December and they were excellent.
Lan
What do you think?
