Mary Ann is the chef and proprietor at the award-winning Carlton Riverside.
Having begun her professional life as a nurse in the 70s, Mary Ann Gilchrist’s cooking career began when the chef at a restaurant at which she was waitressing walked out one night. She stepped in to make pizzas, starting a career that would span several decades.
Mary Ann is chef and proprietor of Carlton Riverside, a restaurant with seven rooms located along the River Irfon. It is one of the most highly rated restaurants in Wales, having one accolades including the AA award for Wales Restaurant of the Year 2007-2008, a position in the National Restaurant Awards’ Top 100 UK restaurants in 2009 and The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year 2001.
A returning chef to the Great British Menu, Mary Ann’s dishes reflect the period using ingredients that would have been readily available during the war.
