Mike Dilger

Mike is a presenter, writer and wildlife extraordinaire.

With degrees in both Ecology and in Botany combined with a life-long passion for Natural History, Mike has risen quickly in the world of presenting. He is one of the best known faces on BBC One’s flagship magazine show The One Show, and has also presented on BBC One’s Inside Out. Prior to this, he was also one of the main presenters on Nature’s Calendar, Natures Top 40 and Hands on Nature on BBC Two, as well as Autumnwatch and Springwatch for CBeebies.

With an encyclopedic knowledge and profound experience of both British and tropical flora and fauna, Mike was first seen on our television screens on Britain’s Wild Invaders and The Natural History of Christmas on Channel Five in 2000 and 2001, going on to present his own series Wildlife Uncovered:UK on the same channel the following year. He then quickly moved onto other projects both on television and radio, becoming the Wildlife Expert on The Terry & Gaby Show on Five, and an on-screen contributor on both British Isles a Natural History in 2004 and The Nature of Britain in 2007, both on BBC One.

Mike is the author and co-author of four books, Nature’s Top 40: Britain’s Best Wildlife, Natures Calendar, Nature’s Babies and his latest book My Garden and Other Animals about the trials and tribulations of making his own back-garden nature reserve. Mike also writes numerous magazine articles for BBC Wildlife and BBC Countryfile magazines amongst others.

Coming from a family of linguists he picks up languages easily and is fluent in Spanish, with a working knowledge of Swahili and Vietnamese. Committed to bringing the beauty of the natural world to as wide an audience as possible, he also attends most of the main British wildlife fairs.
