Charles has waited his whole life to wear the crown, groomed for power but accepting his role as Prince during his mother’s long and stable reign.

My life has been a lingering for the throne…
Charles

The Queen’s death comes as a huge personal blow – Charles has lost his mother. But it also offers the long-awaited chance to rule at last.

Charles’ deeply principled nature, combined with his strong opinions, soon lead the new King to test whether, in the twenty-first century, the British crown still has any real power.

But as Charles grapples with his identity and purpose the stakes could not be higher. His actions quickly threaten his family’s unity, the stability of the country, and the very future of the monarchy itself.
