The BBC has been making regular shows from Norwich on radio since 1957 and TV since 1959.

  • The BBC's first base in Norfolk was a wartime emergency transmitter in Norwich
  • After the war, the BBC opened a proper base and transmitting station at Postwick in 1949 - which still exists today
  • The building at Postwick is the original one from 1949, although it hasn't been permanently staffed for many years
  • Postwick wasn't just a transmitting station, people could go there to broadcast into the wider BBC too
  • Another relic of the BBC's time at Postwick is still kept on the site
  • In September 1956, the BBC finally opened up a proper East Anglian radio headquarters at All Saints Green in Norwich
  • The main radio studio at St Catherine's Close on All Saints Green
  • The All Saints Green HQ as seen in the Radio Times in February 1957
  • The BBC's East Anglian programmes began on February 5 1957
  • On the left Eric Hammond and on the right David Bryson, two of the founding figures of the BBC in Norwich
  • From October 1959, an East Anglian TV service joined radio at All Saints Green
  • The radio control room at All Saints Green, with the studio through the glass, in June 1963
  • The Norwich TV studio didn't just host news programmes like Look East
  • Ian Masters presented Look East through much of the 1970s until 1983
  • A reunion of some early BBC East television staff and contributors in 1984
