TV themes

When you think of the most played artists of all time on British television, you could be mistaken in thinking it's the Beatles or the Kinks from the '60s, Elton John or Stevie Wonder from the '70s, The Eurythmics or Wham from the '80s, Blur or Oasis in the '90s, or Eminem, Adele, Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga from this side of the millennium.
But one artist from Malvern surpasses possibly all of those artists put together - yet nobody really knows who he is.
This week, we start a brand new series with one of the most influential television composers of all time - David Lowe.
And while you may not know the name, you'll certainly be familiar with his work.

The Lost Tapes

A Redditch musician is picking up from where he left off - 30 years ago - after he was offered a record deal with a company that went on to lose the original tape.
In 1974, Tim Fisher (AKA Van Rockman) was performing alongside bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple - and during one of these gigs, he was spotted by EMI.
However, the two talent scouts left the company taking the only copy of the original tape with them and Van Rockman's chance was gone.
"These were the days when time, effort and expense meant re-recording the demo was too daunting a task for a fledgling rock band," says Tim.
But three decades later, while Tim was helping his mum move house, he discovered a studio backup copy in her attic!
With the discovery of this tape, Tim pulled the original members back together to finally record an album, which has just been picked up by Universal and is achieving massive success in America, Brazil and Japan.
Rather fittingly, he's called the album 'The Lost Tapes'!

Requiem in a day

It's been called the most performed major classical choral work since Mozart - but is it possible to learn Verdi's Requiem in a single day?
Yesterday, the Worcester Festival Choral Society threw open their doors to anybody who wanted to have a go!
The day was led by international conductor Piers Maxim, a former chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral and chorus master for the Belgian National Opera, who is now Director of Music at Great Malvern Priory.
