Budget Reaction
In his budget, the Chancellor, and MP for Runnymede & Weybridge, Phillip Hammond, abolished stamp duty for all first-time buyers on properties worth up to £300,000, which he says will help more young people get onto the property ladder. He also announced that the government is setting a target of building 300,000 new homes every year. Here in Surrey, the shortage of affordable housing is a big issue. But so is building in protected parts of the countryside - whether it's a garden village in Tandridge or new homes being planned in places like Guildford, Elmbridge and Waverley.
