The Zero Line: Inside Russia's War

Russian soldiers and civilians film with the BBC in secret, exposing how men on the front line are executed and forced to fight against their will, and how dissent is crushed at home.

In Russia, after four years of war, there is close to zero public opposition to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. But a few are prepared to speak out. Across 2025, Russian soldiers from the front line and civilians at home agreed to film with the BBC in secret. Their testimony exposes the true scale of horror unfolding on the Russian side, with Russian soldiers being tortured and, on occasion, executed by commanders as well as civilians at home experiencing brutal suppression.
