At the Drive-in In Concert

At the turn of the century, after what seemed like a period of sluggishness in guitar music on both sides of the Atlantic, there was a renewed fire in the year 2000 with career defining records from PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and more but, for a relatively short space of time, one band burned brighter than any other – they were a 5-piece from El Paso, Texas - Jim Ward, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Paul Hajjar and Tony Hinojos – better known as At the Drive-in.

Having blazed a trail of supercharged live shows all over the world, including their now infamous TV performance on Later with Jools Holland, At the Drive-in finally made it to the Empire Music Hall in Belfast on the 9th of December 2000. For many in the audience that night, it was life-changing.

Hear recorded highlights of that Belfast show, almost 25 years to the day later, and a special extended interview with founding member of At the Drive-in, Jim Ward, who takes us through the history of the band, from the early tours to their meteoric rise with the hugely influential album “Relationship of Command”; from the Later with Jools Holland performance to the break-up of the band and it’s remarkable legacy a quarter of a century on.
