Glasgow Central Mosque

Glasgow Central Mosque welcomes us for Jummah, the congregational prayer in Islam, observed every Friday.

Glasgow Central Mosque, Scotland’s first purpose-built mosque, welcomes us for Jummah, the weekly congregational prayer in Islam which takes place every Friday in the early afternoon. The service replaces the zuhr prayer, one of the five daily prayers of Islam. Jummah is central to Islamic worship and a reminder of faith, unity and a moment of reflection.

The service will be led by the mosque’s senior imam, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor, and attended by more than 2,000 worshippers from the Glasgow Muslim community.

The Jummah prayer will begin with the Adhan (the call to prayer) recited by one of the mosque’s students. The imam will then deliver the khutba, or Friday sermon, before leading the congregation in prayer, in which he will recite three chapters from the Qur'an, beginning with the opening chapter, Surah Al-Fatiha.
