Craig David talks Vernon Kay through the songs that have soundtracked his life.
Born and raised in Southampton, Craig had his first break into music after winning a songwriting contest held by the R&B group Damage. After meeting the duo Artful Dodger, they collaborated on the track Re-Rewind, which reached #2 in the UK charts when Craig was just 18. He continued working with Mark Hill, one half of Artful Dodger, on his solo work which would become the album Born To Do It. The album was released in 2000. It topped the UK chart and became the fastest-selling debut album ever by a British male solo artist, going on to sell over 7.5 million copies worldwide.
His career has gone from strength to strength, releasing a total of nine studio albums to date as well as DJing and performing across the world. This month, he's releasing a 25th anniversary edition of Born To Do It and will be playing the album in full along with other material at two big shows in April 2026 at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
